The talking head was talking about Virginia "turning blue" (a stupid phrase), pointing out Jim Webb, for one, as an example. She countered with the fact that many, maybe most NoVAites are primarily transient: They weren't born in Virginia, they won't die in Virginia, they moved here from DC or Maryland or wherever for work and she claims that Northern Virginia is not representative of the rest of the state. I don't think she's "sacrificing" key areas of the state, she's just pointing out an (I feel to be) important distinction about "virginia" and it's "turning blue".
Jim Webb is about as republican as you can get and still call yourself a democrat, Warner was loved by Virginians because he did a good freakin' job at "reaching across the aisle" and getting important shit done, and we thought we were getting more of that with Tim Kaine but half the people in VA hate his dumb ass. I don't see why this in particular is so hard to understand? She's not talking about McCain ignoring Metropolitan America (as much as you'd like for her to be) she's talking about an important distinction inside a particular key state for this election.

I was speaking about the campaign in general, and that includes Palin's definition of real "Main Street" America and so on and so forth. That woman also went on to describe rural parts of Pennsylvania and Minnesota. Thats all I'm trying to say. The Rep. strategy of courting certain areas and not others (IMO) is, in this election, not what I would believe to be a winning strategy.

Also, if you believe that you can preach to "all walks" of life in the elective pool, many, many of whom are diametrically opposed to one another, then who isn't actually being given credit for intelligence? Pleasing everybody necessitates lying, and if anybody that believes they can "fool all the people all the time" that person is really the one dumbing folks down. By concentrating your efforts on a certain areas or groups, you're rationally organizing campaign resources.

Well, that of course is true, and that sort of relates to what Ginger said (liars, cheats, and thieves). Naturally the Dems will lie through their teeth about being from a small town (Hillary anyone?). But the Repubs. are using it more readily. And with all the concern over the economy, jobs, home-ownership in particular, IMO the urban and suburban areas of America are now more important than ever, and I feel the Rep. campaign has been dropping the ball in appealing to those areas. The Dems. can and will lie about it, but they largely don't have to worry about areas that contain a majority of our population and the sectors that contain much of the aforementioned variables.
Plus, you need only to look at the votes of 2004 to see how those urban areas voted (U. Michigan)

Yes, no, maybe? I'm just trying to put a perspective on the whole election to this point. I'm more disappointed in how the Repub. campaign has turned out than anything.
EDIT: Ginger, yes I see that is what they are doing, but will that win them this election? I think not. To quote an overused phrase, "It's not what America needs right now". I mean, Obama is leading right now, due in no small part to his campaign strategy in my opinion.

It goes the other way as well. I believe you should have to show some type of knowledge of the candidates position in order to cast a vote, but that makes too much sense.
