What do you cynical bastards think about the new Merc CLA? Supposedly will start under 30k, comes with FWD standard but AWD will be an option. Lately I've been becoming more and more of a Benz fanboi so I don't know if I'm just looking at it through rose colored glasses, but it seems like a pretty awesome place to be on your way to work. Not much more than that, but lately all I've been looking at are boring commuter cars anyway.

.RJ Wrote:FWD Benz? Not sure if serious. Just wait until the dipshits over at BMW start selling a FWD and RWD version of the 1-series over here. Supposedly that's been in the works for a while. Can't possibly imagine how that might confuse consumers... As far as a commuter is concerned, I don't particularly give a crap about drive wheels, making it FWD lets them use more space for the cabin and less for the drivetrain. Its amazing how tightly packaged Jake's car is and how much room is left for the driver when you don't need to worry about silly things like steering columns or gigantic, non-transverse transmissions. I really, really like the interior, I think its one of the best looking dashboards Mercedes has ever done, but I think the styling of the front of the car writes a check the rest of it can't cash. I think it has the same problem the new Subaru Impreza has going on, they grafted styling elements from the full sized car onto a smaller package and it screws the proportions up. I think it'd look awesome with a slightly smaller grill and headlights. Now: 07 Porsche Cayman S | 18 VW Tiguan

Quote:they grafted styling elements from the full sized car onto a smaller package and it screws the proportions up. Agreed, including the sloping rear which doesn't translate well from the big 500 either. I love the interior also except for the afterthought looking display. Not sure what that's all about...

I want to like it but I think they need to tailor its suit so it fits. I dunno what's going on with that display either. I wonder if its removable or folds away or something? I seriously doubt it does anything like this, but it would be kind of cool if it was removable, so when you're sitting in the office 15 minutes before you leave on a freezing cold day you could grab your car-tablet and tell it to start, turn the heat & defrosters on, warm up the heated seat and select some tunes for your ride home. But that's just crazy talk. Now: 07 Porsche Cayman S | 18 VW Tiguan

"idiots walking into traffic" pedestrian safety laws for hood height aren't making the front ends of cars any better these days either.

It's awesome for a Fox body lover like me to see these cars are still being used as the basis for some wicked new builds. I kinda want to say these cars along with the CR-X models of the late 80s - early 90s & the early Si Civics have such a cult following they will always be cool to modify and enjoy.

Agreed, I've been following that thread for a while now. I'm not usually one for black wheels either, but I love that style of wheel and the color really works with the paint.
I'm thinking the next set for das E36 will be a set of TE37s or similar in 17x9. Maybe white if I have the balls to try a different color combo. Now: 07 Porsche Cayman S | 18 VW Tiguan

I dig those 7'er wheels on the E39. I saw this one on reddit this morning:
