Just traded the Interarms .458 win mag for a Parker-Hale .300 win mag. .458 ammo is WAY too expensive (about $100 for 20 rounds) so I ditched it for a more usable gun with a much nicer scope. Pics and specs to come when I get home and can get a picture.

We didn't shoot 1200 rounds. More like 800. He just doesn't want anyone to show up without enough ammo. That being said, it was a little sad that I had to spend more money on ammo than the tuition fee for the class.
Still awesome though.

How would you rate the instructors? Do they seem competent and knowledgeable? I was looking at their precision rifle course, but I want to be taught by someone who actually knows what they are doing...

It was one instructor, 9 students. He (Randy Smith) was extremely knowledgeable, and I'd have no qualms recommending this specific course to anyone else.

Grrrrrrrr! West Side shooting Range Closed
I tried to go shooting Sunday and found the gate closed and a sign that said that it has been closed due to vandalism. I called the forest service and they said that they have no idea when or if it will be repaired due to lack of funds. This sucks as to my knowledge the only other outdoor range anywhere near Harrisonburg is Hite Hollow and thatÔÇÖs a lot farther away.
I donÔÇÖt have much spare cash, but I left a voicemail for someone at the forest service to contact me about making a donation or volunteering to help make repairs. I doubt this will do much good but IÔÇÖm not sure what else I can do. Anyone know of anywhere else in the area for my fianc├®e and me to shoot other than the indoor pistol only range?

If you can get it organized i'm sure we can get some publicity for it and get it repaired. just ask the forest service for an estimate of what its going to take... supplies only, with volunteer labor.

You know, I'm really tired of seeing that video. I probably get it sent to me by somebody 3 or 4 times a week (I'm not singling you out, Thayer) and I just don't get it.
From a practical standpoint, the ergos suck, it's no better than carrying a concealed weapon, and it's an NFA item (short barreled rifle). There is positively no point to it at all...
It might be interesting if no one had thought of it before, but it was done, and by our very own Eugene Stoner (pbuh) in the 1980's Ares Folding Machine Gun:
![[Image: fmg_03.jpg]](http://world.guns.ru/smg/fmg_03.jpg)
(Images are actually of the Boatman M21, which might as well be a direct copy of the Ares, source: World Guns)
Even the Russians did it with the PP-90 SMG:
But there's a reason you don't see plain metal boxes hanging off SWAT belts, or carried in secret service suitcases: It's because they completely SUCK. The ergos suck, the accuracy sucks, and the only *good* thing about it is that it's full auto...but after '86 they couldn't be manufactured for public consumption anyway. A compact pistol is infinitely better in every respect, and oh yeah, isn't stupid. If you need a submachine gun, I don't recall Reagan's bodyguards needing dumb transformer machineguns to get the job done, they just pulled Uzis from their jackets:
And also, I am bored
