Is anyone really the leader in 4k? I thought it was more of the leader in TVs in general.

I'm not sure that's true, given some manufacturers are using OLED and others aren't... at least per my research.

Samsung has steadfastly refused to do OLED 4K, don't know the reasoning, however, i prefer Samsung over others. Their TOL is now QLED, which is just marketing speak for some other fancy features built into LED.

If you're trying to future proof for a few years, in my admittedly uneducated opinion you should go with whoever will sell you OLED. Those have by a vast margin the best picture I have seen out of any of the options out there. They're probably coming down in price now too

Here is a good read on OLED vs LED. At the current price point I don't think OLED is worth the extra few hundred to a thousand dollars over an LED. At least that was the difference when I was TV shopping a year or two ago.

Yeah, it seems OLED is better but it hasn't had a chance for big TVs to come to reasonable price levels. I'm probably going 75" and there are very few OLEDs even available in that size. In my size range, it looks like the most popular brands are LG, Samsung, and Sony. I have a small LG in our bedroom and I'm not at all impressed with it.

Samsung KS8000 or 9000 series and be done with it :thumbup:

KS8000 maxes at 65". KS9000 is $2300 in 65" and twice that in 75".

I said I didn't really have a budget, but I'm definitely not spending $4600 on a TV. :-)

I thought we went over this like 6 months ago and agreed the future of TVs will HDR TVs. I assume the top of the line of those companies will be hdr compatible. One thing I noticed was features definitely seem kind of hidden. Like they don't really tell you that all but one of the hdmi inputs is the old style but compatible with the best picture the tv can do. You have to get the very top of the line one to get all usable HDMI inputs.

I'm really leaning towards the Vizio's although maybe by the time I do it, I'll have some extra to go Samsung. Vizio scares me but if it doesn't break, it sounds the like best bang for the buck. But if it does what 30-50% of reviews say, then it'll be a very expensive pretty paper weight

Yes. And the KS80000 and KS9000 definitely have HDR, hence why i recommended them. They have Dolby HDR, which is even better, as well.

Read the specification sheets, as in the downloadable ones and they should tell you what HDMI inputs have the 2.2 version necessary for 4K inputs. You're looking into sound too right? Get a receiver that has 4K pass-through and then it shouldn't really matter.

My bad, Samsung is HDR10. So yes, it would be best to have both in the long run, however, it looks like this whole thing may just sort out to be one of those Dolby DTS scenarios where they both co-exist nicely (Netflix streams both of them currently.)

HDR is just built into the HDMI 2.2 signal - so if it's 4K passable it should be HDR passable.

My setup is pretty simple: DTV DVR > XB1 > Denon AVR > TV

So it seems like to truly upgrade I'd need also need a 4k DTV, XB1S, and AVR with 4k passthrough. :? I could run video directly from XB1S to the TV, but that's one more cable to a wall mounted TV. I guess that's better than replacing the AVR, given I already have a second one collecting dust in my basement, or having to run a cable from each source. People hate on XB1, but I really appreciate it as an input aggregator.

After doing a bit more research, the answer seems to be to wait on component replacement until after Xbox Scorpio is out later this year. So, for now, looks like I'm upsizing a TV with a plan to eventually move to 4k.
