The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread!
So AT&T came through and really impressed me here.

They were still stressing that I would have to go through insurance even if I fixed the back glass of the S7 Edge and had a pristine phone ready to go for them. That's a $200 deductible. My beef with that is that had I been less honest on the phone yesterday and just said "yep, I'll have a nice phone ready to go for you!" then it wouldn't be a topic of conversation. So, I politely explained that to the support rep and she saw how that was frustrating. I got transferred to "Customer Retention" or something.

The retention gal was very nice and had me give her the Cliff's Notes of how I got this phone, battery sucks, here we are. I've been a customer with AT&T for nearly ten years and she wanted to keep me.

I'm getting an S7 Active in the mail, get to keep the S7 Edge, and she took $10 off of my bill every month.

So then. I suppose I will replace the S7 Edge back glass and sell the phone, see how the Active is (it's basically an S7 with a built-in Otterbox, I guess) and maybe sell that too, to get a Pixel. Maybe. The Active's battery is 33% larger than the Edge, and frankly, it may end up being a better phone for me given all the outdoorsy and car shit I do.

TL;DR: AT&T has good people in the right places.

This may be true on the cell service side, but on the internet side of their business I had to deal with their lying installation, service and customer service crews. It was one of the worst experiences I have ever had, with any service provider of any kind. I actually ended up filing complaints with the BBB and one other big federal entity I can't remember and settled with one of AT&Ts regional VPs after a couple of months.

well...shit. tell me this:

AT&T just laid 1-Gbps fiber in our subdivision. my current internet is through a pretty lame local company that i chose, literally, only because they aren't named Comcast (who, as a company, may kindly go to hell). AT&T's price is only $10 more a month over what I have, as the intro price. i have the fastest package available and need my connection to be pretty robust because i'm moving big file transfers all over the place, all the time.

local company just raised their rates again and probably will again next year too. their connection can be janky...i'm pretty sure i'm not getting advertised speeds all the time.

worth it to move over to AT&T or keep the squirrely local company?

I don't know man, maybe you would have a better experience than I did. I am (surprisingly) pretty cool-headed when it comes to poor customer service but I almost lost my shit a couple of times dealing with people at every level of that group. The fact that I had to file several formal complaints to force their hand to refund money they were basically stealing from me does not bode well for positive experiences. That was not their fiber division, so maybe it's different but I would maybe see how things shake out with AT&T bringing more competition to the area. Maybe it will actually cause the local provider to lower their rates a little to stay competitive

Will do. Based on the reading I've done so far, it looks like you basically run a heat gun around the edges and use a guitar pick or credit card to separate the adhesive. The new back has new adhesive on it so you just press it on, I think.

Anyone find any great deals on TVs for black Friday? Costco had the 60" Vizio for $748 but it's sold out online and one again, that tablet remote gets such bad reviews. Haven't really seen any amazing sales on HDR TVs though.

Vzw has a ultimate ears boom 2 for half off at $99. Looks like amazon sells them for $130. I remember them sounding alright and i still haven't gotten around to picking up a Bluetooth speaker so I may grab one of those.

I have a UE Boom 2 and really like it. It gets pretty loud, has great battery life, is allegedly waterproof (?) and if you have more than one, you can link them together to play music out of 2+ speakers at once like an impromptu Sonos system.

PSA: Would not recommend picking up the Pixel right now. Mine right out of the box is freezing and restarting. It's very fun. With the first 3 hours of ownership I think it has restarted 10 times or maybe more. Looks like there was some software update in late October that messed something up and they havent fixed yet. Might have to take this to Google and get it replaced..

Alright, to follow up it looks like my first phone was a lemon. First time I've ever had a lemon in my life. Safe mode, clearing cache, and factoring resetting did nothing before I decided I needed to take it back for the freezing/restarting. Regional manager believed me and didn't even troubleshoot it. He even saw the issue when we were exchanging the phones at no cost and was very confused. It was the first time out of 200+ Pixel sales that he seen or heard of the issue. Seems like the issue is rare but is happening as there isn't much info on the web/forums besides a few posts.

Long story short, this new phone so far has been fantastic *knocks on wood*. Will update as I have it longer but so far I won't ever go back to non-Google phone and I have no reason to ever go to iPhone for a personal phone now. Seriously it lives up to the hype if you don't get a lemon...

I switched to Verizon and picked up a Google Pixel today. Absolutely fantastic phone. Bare bones Android is the way to go and this is the fastest phone I've ever used. It seriously zooms through menus and apps and never stutters. Google Assistant is very nice even though it's in its early stages and the finger print pad on the back is way more useful than I expected. The screen is very nice and the Google launcher is pleasant.

Most importantly, for the first time in 4 years, I'm not rooming at JMU and I even get a discount because of Cracked Barrel.

Edit: lol, I didn't see Ryan's post. Mine has been fantastic.

I bought a google home. Mostly, just to replace my ipod/soundbar combo. Good sound, the google assistant stuff is nice. Some obvious functionality is missing, but I'm expecting updates for stuff.

For a kitchen radio, it's dope.

Sold my iPhone 6 yesterday, replaced the back glass on my S7 Edge yesterday (super easy) and am getting my S7 Active in the mail today.

I am on the wait list for a black Pixel XL through Google's site and will use the Active until then, going to sell the S7 Edge once I get the Active all set up.

Jake Wrote:What screen size, color, storage space options are you all going with?

I just got the regular Pixel due to having a tablet/laptop so I don't need a huge screen. I had no preference in color besides not getting blue, so I ended up with the silver/white. I went with 32GB because I don't need more than that. Don't really store anything on my phone anymore. Should get more storage if you are planning on storing music, photos, or lots of apps.

Edit: I should say my lemon was a black Pixel and I didn't like it as much as the silver/white. Black hides the nice looks of the phone, imo.

Last edit: my only gripe after having this phone for a few days is battery life is meh. Not any better than when my S5 was new over two years ago. It's not terrible but it only lasts a day and a half with medium-light use. I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't last a full day with heavy use. I wont be using it very heavy so it won't bother me, but for other people that will be a problem. Other than that 0 complaints.
