The Daytona Project
PDenbigh Wrote:Jeff,

I've always heard that it's a bad idea to put the EGT before the turbo. If any piece of it breaks off it will destroy the turbine wheel. What's your take on that?

I'll give you the stock answer we'd give our customers when they asked us that when I was at Geno's Garage (TD truck place). And that's that if the probe is rated properly, if it gets hot enough to break down and come apart, your engine is done anyway. In our case, 2000 deg probes were more than enough for a TD that shouldn't be over 1300 for very long, with serious drag trucks getting above 1500 during a run, (just short of exploding) but that was it. I think they've been in biz for 10 years, and had never heard of one coming apart... I'm sure it's happened to someone, somewhere, but it's just more of an urban legend.

I don't know if 2000 is sufficiently safe for gas, but maybe there's something rated higher? BTW, you're only going to be reading that one cyl temp, but I'm sure you knew that.
