Race Results:
This past weekend I raced my "first" mountain bike race. I've done one other race, but that was 2 years ago. This is my first race after getting back onto a mountain bike 5 months ago and consistently riding. Poca Go! was an enduro style race. Basically timed downhill stages connected by XC/fire roads. No timing was done on the connector portions. It was a great experience overall and all of the proceeds benefited Pocahontas State Park and a much needed parking lot expansion. I think we raised over $7,000!
I raced the beginner male category and placed 4th out of 33 racers. Just missing out on the 3rd place podium by 20 seconds overall time! My total race time was a 16:00.9. First place posted a 15:03.8. Out of the 158 people who raced in total I placed 24th overall.
I'm really, really pleased with my results! I was definitely faster than some of the expert category racers. I'm sure they would have crushed me if the whole race was timed, but it was cool to see the results after just 5 months of being back in the saddle. I'm looking forward to another race soon!
(I have the the deadest eyes when it comes to riding...
