its a bad engine dumb plastic gears, yeah. disposable rod bearings because they engineered them too thin, also a less than optimal feature. but nah, i'm saying its not worse than a turbo EJ time bomb. they doubled the horspers on a commuter engine that was never intended for boost and then gave it a self destructing engine tune. make it out of warranty with that, and best of luck with cracking oil pickup tubes, spun rod bearings, piston slap, head gaskets on the N/A's, and clogged turbo oil screens.

i liked my EJ pretty good too. it wasn't a great engine, and i had to throw money at it to make it last but it put up with a lot and had a lot left to go when it was punted.
