The real reason we end up upgrading is because it seems like all batteries start to fall off at the 18 month mark. The feature I'm most excited about in moving from Galaxy to Pixel is the ability to text from my browser. I do this today with the Pushbullet app/plugin, but I refuse to pay for more than 100 texts/month.
I went to college so I didn't have to count my text messages.
Seriously though, I have unlimited everything for $30/month and iOS/Mac OS allow messaging sync natively. Super easy. Seems to be one area where Android continues to struggle (or demonstrate why the only brand worth buying is Google itself).
