Love my Acer R13, which is a 13inch convertible for about $350 if you catch it on sale. Aluminum body, really nice screen, touchscreen, flips into tablet mode. Build quality is great. Has USB-C charging and data, USB 3.0, expandable memory using MicroSD, HDMI out.
Since you want smaller, you could do the Samsung PLUS which is a 12in for $400ish, or for $550 the PRO. If you want a 10-11in, get an Acer R11 or Asus C100 which are both sub $300.
Things that I think would be a must have, expandable storage via MicroSD and USB-C Charging/data.
I am a huge fan of USB-C charging/data port, mostly cause my Pixel Charger can top off the laptop as well, and you would be in the same boat with your S8. Although it is not as fast, you can still work and it'll charge enough to keep you going while making it 1 less charger to lug around.
