Makes sense, I mean it's never fun to float the gov and gets worse as your portion of income derived from bonus goes up.

We usually don't plan for a huge chunk, just enough for retention after training and certifying and they are suddenly worth more other companies.

There is definitely the perception among many that they never get that money though.

Good move- good friend of mine with a great track record did the same at his previous company. He has greater earning potential where is now but is back in the hot seat!

There are ways around this FYI, claiming exemptions higher than you actually would through work. This means you get more back every paycheck. You just have to settle back with the govt at tax season.

BTW- TurboTax beats me every year (by about $~50-100) when I do my taxes by hand. I still am clueless how they get the foreign tax exemptions on some of my investments correct.
