It all stems from one thing. You can be a dick with a friend and it's funny. If you're a dick to a stranger, it's not.
Sure, new members may know who you are, but you're not close yet. It takes a while to get comfortable with someone. It also takes a while to learn what the alumni think are stupid things to say. I've been here two years and I'm just now at that point.
Plus, we're car guys. Car guys are never the most pleasing social people. Everyone has some quirk.
