Well one theory I've read on the accident is that the steering pump failed and spewed steering fluid all over the place. Under certain circumstances that could've led to a loss of control.
AS for the Carrera GT being inherently dangerous, I think that's somewhat subjective. Dangerous compared to what? Other cars with 650 hp? Other Porsches? A Honda Civic (with a Spoon engine and double shot of NOS)? I have no doubt that the Carrera GT will kill you if you make a mistake, but I think the same could be said of the Viper or older 911 turbos.
The Carrera GT was however the car that killed the driver and passenger at a track day at California Speedway a few years back.
