i've never broken an iphone or ipad screen and i use them about 10hrs per day.
ironically enough, the manufacturers tend to use the same glass.
if anything (really reaching here), an iphone is more likely to shatter because it's so much more solidly built; your POS plastic phone has crumple zones, more or less, because it's built like a tiger handheld game.
