I rooted the Kindle Fire and it's running on Jelly Bean now. It's like, a real tablet now. I guess I lost a few features specific to Amazon but nothing I was using.
I was a little worried because all the instructions I found were for up to 4.3.1 and I was on 4.3.2 which was rumored to have root detection. During the root though there was a little blurb that said it was attempting to remove root disable or detection. It paused there for a ,minute or two but continued on and was successful!
It's getting a lot more use now.

I have a little bit of a rub near lock but if you are turned to lock on a track there are other problems already...
