Well, that's why I linked to a picture of the weaver grip. Make your hands look like that. I mean, without being able to actually SHOW someone how to hold a gun, you're right. But I do the best with what I got. Also, you should know right away if something ISN'T comfortable. Once you get a good grip on it, if it points naturally while you hold it then you're that much farther ahead of the game. Does that make sense?

As far as research goes, while that isn't a bad approach, it will often result in someone making up their mind before they ever even touch a gun, and oopsie, it feels like a brick in their hands and they hate shooting it and it'll sit in a closet for weeks. Either that or their "research" consists of 1 guy they know telling them to get a glock and only a glock because glocks are good and if you don't like glocks you're an idiot or you're doing it wrong.

But again, the advice is to hold everything, make a short list of things you like, and then go talk to a gun store you trust, like one of the two I listed above. Doing research on this topic on the internet means wading through a whole pile of bullshit and most people aren't up to the task.

The most ideal process would be to have a whole lineup of guns at a store and the ability to shoot them all back to back. But nobody does that. I try to do the best with what I got.
