Evan wins, I bought a Galil.
The idea was twofold:
#1: I wanted something that could fire whatever shit-steel-cased-cheap-horseshit .223 I could find and
#2: Had the potential to accept STANAG mags. IMI used to make an adapter, but since then a few companies have taken up the slack.
Simply put, I wanted something cheap that wasn't an AR that would take AR mags after spending a couple of bucks. (Because I have like 20 STANAG mags) My AR-15 is a bit of a precision rifle, and it's a waste to blast away with it at the local range, and julie can't shoot it anyway as it's too heavy.
Plus, if the SHTF, a .223 kalashnikov that accepts STANAG magazines is pretty much the perfect rifle to have at your back.
