They're cheap in fleet sales, dependable, durable, large trunk and interior space with loads of room for computer/printer, weapons, vests etc. Also very comfortable for the cops that pull 8hr shifts in them or longer.
MT did a pretty good article last year or so where they went over American cop cars (Crown Vic, Impala, Charger), their features and why they're chosen. Comfort was mentioned a lot and seemed to be one of their highest priorities.
