I absolutely love mine, but you nailed one of its few flaws; too big for country roads until you're really comfortable with it.
FWIW, mine feels like it could pull a house to 90mph, so I can't say I've noticed it falling on power in higher RPMs, but you also had a different engine; I wish I could see 21mpg though...
