I've also never done a Solo 1 and haven't even attended one in several years, so the format may be different now, but my recollection was that all the warmup sessions were done "HPDE3 style" (passing anywhere with a point) and then cars were sent out at shorter intervals during their last sessions of the day (like 3-5 on course at a time instead of 2-3 with CircuitCross) and were either hand-timed or used transponders, for a warmup lap then a hot lap then a cooldown lap.
I don't really keep up with the SCCA programs so I can't say for sure, but I do believe Solo 1 would be a much more advanced version of what we're trying to do with CircuitCross, during which you will hopefully never see another car on track at the same time because it's only one lap total per run - the timer starts after you exit the hot pits and stops up the hill with plenty of room to get slowed down for pit in (I mean of course you see them at an autocross, but you're 30 seconds apart on different portions of the course... same idea with Circuitcross. And damn that was a long sentence.)
Back on topic - I don't mean for it to be so confusing, because a Circuitcross is NOT an autocross, but it is definitely not an HPDE in terms of speeds, seat time, instruction, or price either. We may stop doing 'em after '07 just because they're so hard to explain.
