The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread!
I've had four different Harmony remotes and was always reasonably pleased. I will admit to not using them with my DTV box, however, because the latency for DVR interaction was a bit slow for my liking. I always used the Harmony for everything, except navigating my DVR.

This particular one is a good deal, but I don't like the ergos of Harmony remotes that have the DVR controls at the top. It's pretty awkward to control because ffwd/play/etc are not within reach.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

I have the Harmony 550 (have had it since college) and my parents have an 880, I think.

Both of them are old as dirt and still work really well. Best universal remotes I've found. I'd buy a new one but this 550 won't die.

This replaced my old harmony when it ate shit.

Love it, would buy again. Only pain is using the phone when "help" is needed. Unless you go with the version that had the screen, then help can be done on the remote.

Yeah that black line would be a deal killer for me.

This might be a dumb question but what is the WR for those types of watches? Are they recommended for no water contact?

Lol is it just a copy of Tag's design? Like is that an "official" Tag skin or did someone rip it off?

Did I miss the discussion on new tv's. Is 4k going to be the new standard or is it a waste of money. If you go 4k, do you need to get a 240hz model or is a 120 good enough?

Eh verdict is still out for me. Not a whole lot of content in 4k except a few things on Netflix (maybe amazon I don't have that) and YouTube. I'll wait for prices to come down before I jump into 4k. I did see some fantastic black Friday deals on 55 inch 4k tvs though.

Yea that's what I'm looking at. Prices still seem pretty low. 55" Samsung 4k for $900 seems like a good deal. But its 120hz and I see they also come 240hz. I honestly never even liked 120 except I'm used to it now or something. Movements looked fake at first or something.

Even 55" inches is pushing it on the size that you might notice the benefit of 4k unless you're going to sit really close. And I cannot imagine you would be able to detect the difference between 120 and 240hz either.

If you need to buy something now that's less than 60" and you're not using it as a computer display 3ft away from your face, I'd get a good quality 1080 for cheap. Now if you want to spend some $, or wait a year, OLED is the real "new thing", 4K or not. And the prices are crashing down as they figure out the manufacturing. They'll be giving away the current crop next year to make room for these.

^ What he said.

That being said, I went ahead and bought a refurbished 55in 4K Samsung last year and I don't regret it. Maybe it's just my mind playing with me, but the 4K material I do get looks fucking fantastic compared to the 1080P. Keep in mind, at least for me, cable still doesn't even transmit in 1080p (it's 1080i) so I highly doubt you'll be seeing 4K anytime soon being transmitted on cable or satellite.

Also - do some research and see how well the TV you're considering, if it's 4K, downscales. I read a whole bunch of A/V blogs about the TV I bought and everyone was raving about just how good it was at downscaling to 1080P and how they couldn't tell the difference between it and a high end 1080P model.

What's also neat for Samsung is that they develop "Evolution" kits which are like an add-on that ensures your model doesn't become outdate so quickly (most importantly on HDMI inputs.) So that gave me some piece of mind that what I'm buying won't be completely worthless in a year.
