Apparently the maps in iOS are seriously fucked up:

Not surprising though. Apple just started buying mapping companies 2 or 3 years ago, Google has been doing the map thing 3 times as long. What is surprising is that they'd release something that is so clearly worse than what they had on the phone before.

I played with my Mom's new iPad today. The screen is really nice but the interface didn't seem intuitive... probably because it's the first time I've used an iOS device for longer than 3 minutes. I have about 4 more days of playing with it to see if there's a curve, etc.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

Got the new phone. It's nice. Can't put it up against the S3, which is apparently its toughest competitor...
Ridiculously lightweight. Pretty much disappears in your pocket.
Very fast. I was on a 4 so according to marketing, this is 4x faster. I don't think I'd call them liars.
The new connector is nice, but fuck that noise in general. I now have 435345 useless cords unless I buy $30 adapters for them. Those adapters aren't even for sale yet. Nor are extra cords. So I have to f'ing tote my new cord between home and work. And I have to pay $30 to continue using my $100 clock radio that is a few years old. Shit situation is shitty.
Apple maps suck, but maps.google.com still works.
But the phone? It's pretty nice. I'm happy.

I'm not. I had to keep asking my sister how to do things... because I kept trying to do them the way I was used it. Maybe intuitive is the wrong word. Maybe I should have said "way I'm used to and would subsequently expect."

Got my JesusPhone 5 this morning. 32GB white on AT&T.
I also came from a 4.
The screen is really great. Better than the 4, and the 4 was still a Retina Display. I read somewhere that they changed the screen design, so now the screen + digitizer are all one piece.
Awesome improvement, that a lot of people won't notice at first... Apple improved the microphone for better noise canceling. I'm on a conference call right meow, in a Starbucks with a speaker blaring John Mayer above my head and baristas clanging things around, and other people on the call have told me they can't hear any of that.

What don't you like about the maps? I've heard mixed reviews, people either hate it or love it. Since I updated to iOS6 it seems to find me and render the map a hell of a lot faster, but a co-worker was saying his couldn't even get in the ballpark when he was trying to drive to work today. I think I'm going to try out the turn by turn myself this afternoon.
The connector nonsense is silly, I don't have many gadgets so when I eventually upgrade it won't be as big of a deal, I'd be pissed if I had as much stuff as you though.
I'm excited about the new phone, but I watched the keynote and none of the features made my 4S feel particularly archaic. I'm pretty happy to use it for another 6-12 months until I upgrade it. A lot of the reviews I've been reading complain that its "only" an evolution on the 4S, not a "revolutionary spin" on it. But why would you completely revolutionize something as good as the 4S? Just fine tune that ish.

All this iPhone talk and no mention of the new headphones? I'm no headphone expert but these seem nice to me. Redesigned shape with 2 speakers on each bud. They fit in your ear really nice and stay there. Haven't tried them out for running but just for walking around they stay put. Also seem to have some sort of noise canceling ability which is great. I walked through isat at medium volume and barely heard all the sorority girls.

Ok, is anyone on t-mobile?
Here's why I ask:
I'm real tired of shenanigans. I'm tired of shitty phones and locked bootloaders and vendor-specific UI overlays. I'm committed to android at this point (for better or worse) and I still have some investigation to do on what it would take to exit my contract.
But I *think* what I'd like to do is get with a TDMA carrier (AT&T or T-Mobile) with a nice shiney sim card and then just pay for the next Google Nexus phone that drops. I bought this fucking Droid X2 because I figured Google would (you know, since they *own* motorola handsets) continue to support it with software updates.
NOPE! HOPE YOU LIKE YOUR GINGERBREAD CUZ THAT'S WHAT YOU'RE STUCK WITH.
Needless to say, it sucks ass.
Ugh. I just want a phone and carrier with no shenanigans. No bullshit. I am very attracted to the idea of just yanking a SIM card and putting it in whatever piece of shit phone I buy on craigslist and I'm very attracted to not being beholden to my carrier for what phone I choose to use. (Especially not choosing from their shitty list of the shittiest phones of 2010 they have to offer me)
So...anyone have t-mobile?

Why not AT&T since it's, you know, not T-Mobile?
