Wrench Day! Sun. 12th - Chris - 09-06-2004

Sunday at my place in Fox Hills (1428) starting around 11am or so. There are a few of us who need to prepare for summit the following weekend and any help would be appreciated.

If my parking lot doesn't work bc of too many cars then who else has room?

things I need to accomplish: tighten and check all suspension bolts (an experienced hand on this is needed), new p+ pads installed, oil change, and 2nd set of wheels put back on.

who else needs what so we can be sure to have the tools?

oh and when we finish someone can come with me when i bed in the new pads Big Grin

- ScottyB - 09-06-2004

if need be im sure we can use the sunchase lot here, its not quite level but its open and pretty big.

- damnit458 - 09-06-2004

Oh man chris you just made my night...

- Maengelito - 09-06-2004

bed those pads in right or this might happen to you on track...

evan - i'll bed them in on my first session
me - ummm, they wont have time to cool
evan - they'll be fine...

- Dave - 09-06-2004

w00t!
I also will be there, wrenching on mine and anybody else that needs it. My list contains: new brake rotors and bedding in, suspension check, oil change, and headlight switch.

- Chris - 09-06-2004

good, looks like we have our suspension and brake guy.

my lot usually empties out in the mornings, but I'll get my roommates and I to take up a few spots. If anyone else wants to park here over night, you won't get towed and it would help create some space.

- Sijray21 - 09-07-2004

i'll be there, i need to change all four pads, brake fluid (need help with this), patching tire(wal-mart style), and fix that damn hood opening device inside....hopefully not the wheel bearing..........

forgot i need to flush my coolant

- Chris - 09-07-2004

yikes... I did this over the summer and its a bitch. I'm willing to help, just make sure you read up on where your drain bolt is on the block.

you may just want the dealership to do this for the sake of time and headaches.

- ViPER1313 - 09-07-2004

I'll come to help out - I also need to bleed my brakes.

bedding in of pads have nothing to do with glowing rotors.

even Matt at carbotech said the increased wear was due to the constant heat in the pads, not the bedding. An easy track session is the best way to bed in pads, n00b!

- .RJ - 09-07-2004

They need to sit for an hour after bedding in

- Evan - 09-07-2004

carbotech's own instructions state 30 min. The car sat for over 45 after the first early morning session.

And I still dont know why you fuckers keep bringing it up, I paid for the damn pads anyway.

Even on the overbraked miata, with (factory) brake ducts, and pads that wear like iron,
with 2 drivers I see much higher wear rates, around 3x for 2 drivers compared to 1

- Chris - 09-07-2004

once you've bedded them in and they have cooled, should you not take them off until after the track weekend? (not that I was going to for this time, but maybe in the future)

- .RJ - 09-07-2004

Just leave them on

those brand new pads were done in 1.5 days. my rotors were grooved to hell. i've never had that happen to any pads i've properly bedded in.

- Mike - 09-07-2004

FIGHT FIGHT! and yeah chris, leave them on. the whole point to bedding them in is to get them mated to the rotor's surface. if you take them off, run other pads for a week, and then put the track pads back on they will need to bed all over again...
