Single Speed Road bike - balactm - 11-13-2008

So, someone stole my bike, painted the frame purple, and then expected to pass it off as theirs while parking it back in my dorm. So i stole it back and decided to do a quick, cheap restoration while simultaneously turning it into a cruiser for around campus.

I took everything apart down to the frame, sanded it down and then repainted it a gun metal gray with metal flakes (a rim paint). The guy who stole it also got purple paint on my cranks so i had to paint those the gun metal as well. after it dried in my room, i started reassembly and got here:

now, i'm waiting until tomorrow to finish because i need to get a few new parts:
brake pads
tires and tubes
a chain
and some washers to space out the freewheel when it's on after taking the other sprockets off

I also am going to be painting the rims of the bike but leaving the spokes the aluminum. I'm thinking black but can't decide flat or gloss...any other suggestions would be much appreciated Smile

here are the wheels pre paint

wtf? it looks like it was a POS before it was stolen? same thing happened to me in my first few weeks... took my dad's old junker (huffy) and it was f'ing stolen off the rack! funny; buying a replacement is what got me in to biking... i guess i should thank the person Tongue

i'm kind of confused as to what you're doing with painting the wheels. what parts are you painting? make sure you mask the brake surface or "good luck" with stopping.

a stakeout would have been more inspirational.
