Project Mr2 N/A->Turbo - l33t Mr2 - 02-22-2008 I decided to make one of these things for suggestions, help, and to share updates and other things. I bought my car in August 2003 from a gay carpenter. It was completely stock with the standard 5sfe n/a engine making 135hp and 140 tq. Since it's arrival in my hands I was able to give it a re-sex change back into a female and do a few light modification. First suspension- Rota Slipstreams 15X6.5 with Bf Goodrich sports Kyb AGX shocks Eibach Springs Engine- I bought the regular I/H/E combo for the n/a. My eardrums fell out because the 5sfe w/o cats is absurdly loud and I wasnt making enough power so I decided to upgrade the engine. Although this motor was great and very peppy on the autox track. new engine! ![]() I bought a 3sgte rear clip from a 1993 mr2 from japan through www.mr2warehouse.com The clip had 39,000 miles on it and came with a 5zigen exhaust and LSD. The engine is claimed make 225hp and 225 tq. While doing the swap I was able to take advantage of the motor being out and installed a 255lph fuel pump and a spec stage 2 clutch. Maximum stock boost pressure is 10-11psi. So, naturally that is not high enough. I installed a MBC, boost gauge and increased boost to 14psi. NOTE: this is the point of my addiction to boost. To help keep a nice consistent spark NGK 6097 copper spark plugs gaped to 0.028. Next, I bought a Apexi Power Intake. Intakes are always fun made my turbo so much louder. I love the mr2 because the turbo is located right behind your head. I added a autochrome DP to the exhaust and to eliminate the secondary cat. The autochrome DP is generally hit or miss. Good thing mine hit. Also, they also hold the wastegate open some how so you have to sand down the inlet. They are 50 dollars but you have to mod them and hope they don't crack in a year. I dyoned at 221whp and 240tq Next, I installed a side mount intercooler and turned up the boost to 15psi. Also, installed intercooler block off plate, shroud, and spal fan. Body: 1998 Japanese Tailights 1995 front Lip Hella Headlights Sweet llittle mr2 badge. I just bought new wheels they are nismo LMGT-2 wheels made by RAYS for the 300m skyline, an ebay shortshifter, polyurathane motor mount inserts and hankook vs2 tires. all are just sitting around here. I plan on refinishing the wheels this weekend, and posting a write up. Not sure on my next mod. I either want koni shocks or a ct20b turbo. Old picture w/ scoop, old exhaust, and lights Soon to be old wheels, scoop, old lip http://shw.fotopages.com/722791/Matts-then-Scotts.html http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v305/ ... ain004.jpg - Evan - 02-22-2008 very cool, I love those cars. Always wanted one. any plans for the track? - WRXtranceformed - 02-22-2008 Nice man, whats your curb weight as it sits now? - l33t Mr2 - 02-22-2008 mr2s are suprisingly heavy I would say its around 2740 pounds. Thats the advantage of swaping an n/a to turbo because it doesnt have a bunch of extra BS on it. I have big plans for the track once I have the cash money right now I am sticking with autocrossing. - Goodspeed - 02-24-2008 Very cool, this is a car I haven't seen enough of. Are you still around JMU? Can you make it to meetings? Hope to see you at the upcoming auto-x'es - l33t Mr2 - 02-25-2008 Quote:Very cool, this is a car I haven't seen enough of. Are you still around JMU? Can you make it to meetings? Hope to see you at the upcoming auto-x'es I can never make the meetings because they are always when I have class. I am definitely going to be at the autocrosses around here. Wouldnt mind traveling to Richmond for some as well. -Matt - Dave - 02-25-2008 I want to hump your car. That is all. - balactm - 02-26-2008 that's awesome. I freakin love mr2's! Although, if you were gonna do the swap....you should have gotten a first gen. They're about 400 lbs llighter. - l33t Mr2 - 02-29-2008 i think first gens only came in the celica and make 190 hp. this guy has 225/225 which is cool and a ceramic turbo. Anyways. I am thinking about upgrading to a Evo3 16G Kit any of the mitsubishi dsm guy would be proud. I found a good price on a new kit. DP, oil lines, adapters, turbo, actuator ect... and I am REALLY REALLY tempted to buy it. suggestions? -matt - D_Eclipse9916 - 02-29-2008 Is it a mitsu exhaust housing or what? The 16g is an awesome street turbo. Its what I would run if autox and street driving is what you want to do. Go for it! How much is the price? - Feersty - 03-02-2008 Very nice buildup. Any experience before doing the engine swap once you did yours? - l33t Mr2 - 03-06-2008 here is a pic of the 16g turbokit ![]() Well, i decided against this kit... it wont make enough power - Andy - 03-06-2008 I thought the MR2Warehouse guys did the swap for you? - l33t Mr2 - 03-08-2008 yeah, dave actually was a good friend at one time. I haven't really talked to him since this tho... or I could do a t3/t4 ![]() I think it looks silly - l33t Mr2 - 03-23-2008 FINALLY NEW WHEELS!! rays engineering lmgt2 17X8 17X9 ![]()

- Mike - 03-24-2008 those wheels are gorgeous. - ScottyB - 03-24-2008 Mike Wrote:those wheels are gorgeous. x2 if i had wheels like that i'd unbolt them from the car every night and sleep with them - l33t Mr2 - 03-24-2008 thanks guys, actually when i was refinishing the lips I kept them all in my room with the tires for that fresh rubber scent. It was kind of like a inscents burning in my room. My fingers lost all their finger prints from all the fine grit sand paper too.. but it was worth it. - JustinG - 03-24-2008 those look awesome |
