Free! 1-4 Freshwater Angelfish - WRXtranceformed - 12-03-2007

I've had these fish for a while. They're beautiful fish, but I'm getting them out of my tank because they are way too aggressive. The number of my fish that they've killed is getting close to double digits. They're all about 6 inches from fin to fin. They will lay eggs and have babies... they've done it before except they ate all of the eggs after they hatched

I think it's because they're very territorial and my tank is too small for them. They have been well fed and taken care of. I got them for free though so I'm passing them on to a good home for free. Otherwise I can't be responsible for where they end up...Rolleyes Please let me know and come pick them up asap if you want them.

I know my camera sucks and I couldn't get a focused pic of them without the flash. Take 1, take all 4, I don't care.

What size tank do these things need?

- WRXtranceformed - 12-09-2007

I have no idea. They're in a 20gal now and it's probably too small. I do have several other smaller fish in there with them too though, if you had just those 4 in a tank like that they would be fine.

My problem is that they occasionally attack my other fish. They fight around with each other, but they never hurt each other... it's all territorial. They're so big that they basically eat my other fish though.

general minimum rule is about a gallon per inch (lenghwise) of fish if it's freshwater, 5 gallons per inch for saltwater. i have a 10 gallon display for my 1 two inch long saltwater fish and it's just enough for it to have ample room because it's so active.

this is a tricky rule though becaus you need to compensate for more predatory or territorial fish, or for thick (tall) fish like angels. i'd say 40 gallons or more is a good size due to them being so large overall and territorial/predatory.

Hey thanks for the tidbit Scott! I'ma use that on another forum I've got this posted on if that's ok.

no prob! you can bend the rules of course but a nice 55 gal. like this would be primo and is a very common, universal size for both fresh and salt.

Good stuff! Thanks buddy!!!! Smile

I don't know where else to ask this, sorry. Has anyone bought tropical fish online? I think I want to do that.

- Ginger - 12-24-2007

That just seems like a bad idea... why not go to a fish store?

- WRXtranceformed - 12-24-2007

Yeah just go to PetSmart or Petco. I think it's PetSmart that has a 2 week warranty on their fish which is pretty cool (albeit morbid).

Btw, I replaced the gigantic angelfish with 4 tiger barbs (one died yesterday Sad) a cool ass catfish and a silver tipped freshwater shark. The shark and catfish are total ballers!!
