So, that's what I spent today doing. The owner of the shop where I work commissioned this, using the drivetrain from a wrecked R1200C. A shop called Dirty Hands Choppers is doing the build, and they brought it in to us to make it run and modify/simplify the wiring harness, as well as modify the airbox. We had it running in under an hour, then spent the next two hours hacking up the wiring harness. We made it using two switches, one to activate the motronic unit and the other to run the fuel pump, and a momentary switch for the starter. We used most of the stock harness, stock relays, stock starter relay, and stock connectors. We put the harness back on, made sure it still worked, then took it all off and took the bike completely apart....because the frame has to come off to remove the airbox. On a normal cruiser you can just remove the rear subframe, but on this chopper they welded the rear subframe to the front frame, and we had to take it all apart. Apart, airbox apart, and back together in another hour and a half. We removed the airbox entirely, now it's just two throttle bodies with open velocity stacks a little in front of and under the saddle.

Well, at least you got to work on something unique.

But no really. It's cool to see Bob taking initiative and trying to turn a BMW into something the mainstream motorcycling public would show some interest in. Choppers are pretty In, so this would be neat to drum up interest in a company that people think is all for geezers. I'll admit, having a reason to be interested in the company has lead me to consider one as my next bike. Maybe it will be able to do the same thing for people who think BMW is stuck in the past.

That bike looks cool, but I'd be afraid I'd impale myself on those two spikes if I had to hit the brakes real hard!!

It also makes Andrew's (Rex's?) VFR sound like a vacuum cleaner.
