Where do I get jackstands with a flat base? - BLINGMW - 02-28-2007 I've seen people make them, take a regular jackstand and weld a plate on the bottom. Some of you probably have them! Can I buy them like that somewhere for cheap? A quick search on a few auto parts and tool sites didn't bring up what I was looking for. - D_Eclipse9916 - 02-28-2007 y??? - PDenbigh - 02-28-2007 http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/ ... _200313386 http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/ ... _200318703 Or for all the stands you could ever want: http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/ ... allpartial - BLAIR - 02-28-2007 so they dont tip over as easy - PDenbigh - 02-28-2007 D_Eclipse9916 Wrote:y??? They don't sink in hot asphalt, sand (VIR), Dirt (Summit), grass/sand (CMP), etc. - white_2kgt - 02-28-2007 D_Eclipse9916 Wrote:y??? at the track you are not allowed to use stands w/o a solid base on the hard surfaces. - BLINGMW - 02-28-2007 I didn't try Nothern Tool, those $39 ones look pretty nice, but we don't have one around here. So it'd be like $52 shipped. Eh... Any other ideas? Is this just the excuse I need to buy a welder or what? - Dave - 02-28-2007 BLINGMW Wrote:I didn't try Nothern Tool, those $39 ones look pretty nice, but we don't have one around here. Probably be pretty cheap that way too. - Maengelito - 02-28-2007 i just had a 2'x2' piece of wood cut into 4 smaller squares. that works fine as well. i'd like to go the welded route if i knew how to weld, but wood works fine too - white_2kgt - 02-28-2007 Maengelito Wrote:i just had a 2'x2' piece of wood cut into 4 smaller squares. that works fine as well. i'd like to go the welded route if i knew how to weld, but wood works fine too If you want to cut some steel for the bottom of your jacks I'll bring the welder to the track and weld them up for you sometime. I can't weld any thicker than 1/4" though, but 1/8" should be plenty thick for something like this, best idea is to match the thickness of the jack, that way even heat will go into each piece. - Maengelito - 02-28-2007 white_2kgt Wrote:Maengelito Wrote:i just had a 2'x2' piece of wood cut into 4 smaller squares. that works fine as well. i'd like to go the welded route if i knew how to weld, but wood works fine too its not too big of a deal. the wood works well and i honestly dont need flat bases on a concrete garage floor. i also dont have room for jackstands and a jack in the miata so i dont bring them to the track anymore. i appreciate the offer though chad - HAULN-SS - 02-28-2007 wtf!? who buys a car you cant fit that essential stuff in? - Maengelito - 02-28-2007 its not like no one will let you borrow their jack/jackstands in the paddock. it takes up a lot of room in a trunk and i dont have much to spare, so its not a priority for me seeing as how borrowing them is a viable option. thats how i bled my brakes at VIR this past weekend. btw, thanks b00bies for letting me borrow your jack whether you knew it or not - .RJ - 02-28-2007 HAULN-SS Wrote:wtf!? who buys a car you cant fit that essential stuff in? :?: - Andy - 02-28-2007 Maengelito Wrote:its not like no one will let you borrow their jack/jackstands in the paddock. it takes up a lot of room in a trunk and i dont have much to spare, so its not a priority for me seeing as how borrowing them is a viable option. thats how i bled my brakes at VIR this past weekend. btw, thanks b00bies for letting me borrow your jack whether you knew it or not You used my jack. You can jack me off next time. - NTIman - 02-28-2007 I have an aluminum set from Blue Point, but the are obviously insanely priced. I'd do the welding trick, a lot cheaper, and just as good. - Maengelito - 02-28-2007 Andy Wrote:Maengelito Wrote:its not like no one will let you borrow their jack/jackstands in the paddock. it takes up a lot of room in a trunk and i dont have much to spare, so its not a priority for me seeing as how borrowing them is a viable option. thats how i bled my brakes at VIR this past weekend. btw, thanks b00bies for letting me borrow your jack whether you knew it or not again? |
