Aluminum sprockets = busted chit - .RJ - 09-10-2006 This one had about 8,000 miles on it, and its toast - PDenbigh - 09-10-2006 On Mountain bikes, it's always reccomended to replace the chain and sproket at the same time, otherwise they wear prematurly. Any idea if one was newer on yours? Also, nice work :-). It's all those wheeeeelies. - .RJ - 09-10-2006 Well, the chain went on at the same time as both sprockets.... I'm hoping I can just replace the sprocket without doing the chain. - PDenbigh - 09-11-2006 Can you get chomoly or some other compound sproket? - .RJ - 09-11-2006 I *think* I can get a steel one.... - Maengelito - 09-11-2006 get a gold chain. i'm sure Mr. T or flava flav or run dmc have one lying around from the 80s. that'd be way better than your universal gold - Feersty - 09-11-2006 So this can simply be chocked up to wear and tear, or a shitty product? - .RJ - 09-11-2006 Wear and tear.... for street use, aluminum sprockets arent worth the hassle, they're too soft. For track/racing, where you dont put that many miles on the sprockets, definately worth the weight savings. - .RJ - 09-12-2006 New sprocket ordered from Kneedraggers, I'll have it thursday. Different brand this time (Renthal), hopefully with more favorable results. - .RJ - 09-14-2006 New sprocket here, on time as promised - the new sprocket (Renthal) appears to be a little beefier and has some sort of coating on it as well - hopefully to reduce friction/wear? All is well, bike is back on the road, but I'm going to replace the chain. It doesnt have constant tension as I spin the rear wheel around, so I reckon there is something wrong with the chain as well from the self-destructing sprocket
- Ginger - 09-14-2006 That thing freaking exploded... There were FIVE teeth left on the sprocket... and all of those five were bent. - Dragon - 09-15-2006 .RJ Wrote:New sprocket here, on time as promisedUPS, Fed-EX, DHL, or Carrier Pidgeon? - .RJ - 09-15-2006 I did a wheelie this morning 8) - Sijray21 - 09-15-2006 squid
- .RJ - 09-15-2006 1st gear up hill... uh.. i didnt mean to do that one really
- .RJ - 09-25-2006 Never one to resist the bling.... I put my new gold chain on this evening ![]() And for other somewhat related two-wheeled busted shit.... I binned it on my road bike pretty good today. The handlebar is fubar'ed. I'm ok, but when I hit the ground I was pretty sure I broke something. It was a beautiful afternoon out, so at least there were plenty of people to watch me bust my ass. - ScottyB - 09-25-2006 .RJ Wrote:And for other somewhat related two-wheeled busted shit.... OUCH! |
