2006 MM Trips - G.Irish - 12-14-2005

Now that the new year is upon us I have already been thinking about what cool trips we could go on as an MM outing. I know for sure that I will be doing Laguna Seca again for Moto GP and Suzuka for F1 but I'd like to know what everyone else would like to go to.

Laguna Moto GP
For stateside events I have to recommend Laguna for Moto GP as it was an absolute blast, even though I went alone. This year I'm hoping I'll be able to score media credentials for it so I can write an article for Vtec.net. Even if not, it'll still be fun.

This is the last year of the 990 cc machines so you definitely have to go see/hear/feel them. They are deafeningly loud yet deep and guttural sounding engines, a sound unlike anything you've probably ever experienced.

I'm thinking that we should camp for this event because all of the hotels near the track are gouging the shit out of everyone and I don't particularly feel like driving an hour to the track again this time, although I guess it won't be as bad if we go as a group. If we camp we could always just rent a RV, which would probably be a ton of fun.

Anyway Let's get the ball rolling gentleman. List your ideas and where you want to go. If you want to go to Moto GP please say so.

I'm in for moto gp, who wants to ride out Smile

- Mike - 12-15-2005

i'd like to do the week in japan, which was discussed in a previous thread.

- Evan - 12-15-2005

Im not real big on trips just to watch a race (although if I did it would probably be motoGP), Id rather do something like Jazzfest @ New Orleans

Pick up new bikes just before the event out there, ride 'em back...

- JohnC - 12-15-2005

I'm in for Laguna.

The Japan prospective dates (pulled from the other thread):

F1 Suzuka: October 7-8
SuperGT Autopolis: October 14-15

WRC Japan: September 2-3
SuperGT Motegi: Sept 9-10
MotoGP Motegi: 16-17

The F1 weekend will be more expensive but damn, if there was ever a track to watch F1 at, its Suzuka. The upside to going to one or both of the Motegi races is that the Honda Collection Hall is at Motegi. Maybe I(we) could do Motegi next year. There are rumors that Fuji Speedway will get the F1 date next year which may bump Suzuka off the schedule (stupid Bernie). All the more reason to do Suzuka.

IF... RJ and i can find bikes on the west coast... we did talk of riding them back... oh joy lol... i'll have bow legs now!

MM trip to Japan would be amazing...It sure would be a lot of coin though. Anyone going there on business during that time that we can crash with?

- G.Irish - 12-15-2005

We could just stay at hostels which would work out to be about $100-300 per week in accomodations. The big cost is the airfare and the tickets to the race. Hopefully I'll be able to use frequent flyer miles to get the ticket for free.

I think I might have a line on a frequent flyer miles hustle where you can buy miles for $.01 each so you could potentially get a $900-1200 ticket for $600. For Laguna Seca it wouldn't be worth buying the miles since you can easily get a ticket there for around $250 (I flew into Oakland for about $230 r/t).

- Dragon - 12-15-2005

I'm in for MotoGP, since it was already on my '06 trip plan.

- HAULN-SS - 12-15-2005

Japan isnt as expensive as you think. I stayed at a prince hotel in the imperial district there..split three ways taht was 70$ per night...and a nice ass place too..eff a hostel. If i had stayed out of the awesome arcades and gift shops there, it would've probably been less than 50$ a day

- Mike - 12-15-2005

in the ferrari or jaguar, switchin' four lanes with the top down screamin' out MONEY AIN'T A THANG!

- G.Irish - 12-15-2005

Eh I'd rather spend my money doing stuff or buying stuff when I'm on vacation than on a pimpy hotel. After living out of hotels for a year and a half I don't really care to spend much money on them because you're only going to be sleeping there. I only discovered hostels in my last trip to Hawaii so I haven't had a chance to test out my theory yet. Maybe I'll take a smaller trip somewhere to try it out.

Anyway, I'd much rather save that $200-400 by finding a cheap place to sleep so I could blow more cash in Akihabara or buying bling full-tobacco racing gear and JDM auto parts.

There are some times I'd much rather have a hotel though (like VegASS).

What about Nurburgring in Germany...We can all get a ride in the new, 507hp M5 with a RACE CAR driver!! Take a look:

- G.Irish - 12-15-2005

We could rent a car and drive the Nurburgring. Shit, we could rent a bike and ride the Nurburgring...Confusedhock:

- Mike - 12-15-2005

get a ride on a ring? rofl... no thanks.

- Maengelito - 12-15-2005

yeah, i dont care much to ride the ring. put me behind the wheel like ol' seddon

- Ginger - 12-15-2005

I'll ride the Ring with you, G.

I'd much rather do that than pansy out behind the wheel of a car.

- Evan - 12-15-2005

Id like to check out Nasa nationals even if I dont race, looks like quite a bit of festivities like hyperfizzle and then some
