keeping the Atlanta tradition alive - ScottyB - 03-17-2005

i guess the MM Atlanta division will be rolling 2 deeper now! Jen (fiancee) was accepted into Emory for grad school, so we've decided that's where we want to be this fall.

we'll be living in the decatur/buckhead area, so if anyone has some tips on good housing or jobs (design related, preferably) that would be killer.

i guess i have to start shopping for dubs if i want to fit in.

- Chris - 03-17-2005

congrats Scotty!

I might be in the South this summer too... more to come.

Housing - dont live in buckhead, its too damn expensive and you'd just get shot. Dunwoody/Perimiter/Sandy Springs is a bit more reasonable on the rent. I have no idea how far this is from Emory.... thats for Jess

Chan says that 17's are the absolute minimum around here, and thats enough just to keep you from getting your ass kicked right away, and you cant even get into most clubs without 18's or 19's on your ride.

that's why Jess and I don't goto buckhead very much. Sad

I got no input on where you could live, I barely know where I am. All I've figured out is northside=ok, southside=ghetto, and live as close as you can to school/work. Seriously. The traffic is amazing. IMHO it's more important to not waste your life sitting in traffic, even at the cost of a staying in a crappier apt, worse area, whatever.

I asked about this here: http://forums.corner-carvers.com/showth ... relocation and there's some good info there

Avoid the roads in blue like the plauge, at any time, in either direction. Nice areas to live are in the yellow. Reasonable commutes will be in the orange.

- Mike - 03-17-2005

huhuh that pic looks like a girl from behind (the yellow areas). huhuh.

- .RJ - 03-17-2005

you need to get laid.

- Mike - 03-17-2005

huhuh i did Smile

- .RJ - 03-17-2005

Is that some sort of Rorschach test for you? because I just dont get it.

- Mike - 03-17-2005

just make the top circle brown and you should begin to see it better

- ScottyB - 03-17-2005

hahah you're awful Mike.

RJ and Chan...you guys rock, thanks for the input. i've heard alot of the same about the traffic being near-biblical, so that's our top priority right now next to decent housing. if my job allows it, i'll be taking the MARTA.

- .RJ - 03-17-2005

lol... its not like the DC metro system Sad In fact, it sucks.

- ScottyB - 03-17-2005

from all that i've been reading, everyone keeps pushing either north or west. how do you guys feel about east, like the stone mountain/pine lake area? Emory is like right in with La Vista and N. Decatur, for reference.

Jen has a sister in Kennesaw, so i've had a chance to enjoy the hell on earth between 85/285/75 three times now, and it was never enjoyable....and that was driving on early morning/late afternoon weekends.

- JackoliciousLegs - 03-17-2005

congrats big man... that's awesome. Good luck finding a place to live!

I'd pass.

West would be smyrna/vinings (smyrnings) - I looked at a lot of apts over in that area and some of it is nice, and some of it was just way too far out. I liked the area, but commuting to the north side (perimeter mall, where the star is) would have been a mess. Rush hour was ~35 minutes on a good day (no rain, no accidents) and ~40 minutes taking back roads, which would be the way to go as your commute really cant triple in time due to bad weather/accidents like it can on the highways. It was a bit cheaper than the area around perimeter mall though.

I dont know what the commute would be like from smyrnings to Emory, so I cant help you with that. Another good area would be inside the perimeter on the north side, east of 400 - there are a few nice places over there that should be pretty close and relatively devoid of clusterfuck traffic.

- ScottyB - 03-17-2005

thanks dawg. i'll do some serious research on the Chamblee to Sandy Springs type area. Emory is right on route 124, so at least its fairly accessable. if i want to live close though, ill be in southeast buckhead it looks like. at least i have alot of time to hunt.

thanks man! im pretty pumped. housing is our biggest hurdle right now....if need be, i can find a job pretty much anywhere, so that's not priority yet.

yeah, cause the lower part being yellow, surrounded by red with thick blue veins streaking away from it, that's normal. :barf:

it's normal after intense, prolonged use, such as Maeng's mom.
