Spotted in the wild - davej - 04-23-2014

I've see this a couple of times in town, but finally stopped to grab a picture. First time seeing a Tesla close up, looks to be a really solid car and the fit/finish was great. would love to play with one a bit.

wicked reflections off the window, but the center console display looked like they stuck a tablet in there.

and completely unrelated, came across this photo on my phone also.

President/Owner of my company daily drives one. They're pretty sweet.

Side note: He got this one for free because his roadster was totaled by the dealership when they took it out for a test drive after servicing it.

Am I the only one that thinks that, while the Tesla S does look good, it is already starting to show signs of aging? I really hate the catfish oval mouth, and shiny black plastic in the middle of it.

Re: Spotted in the wild - SlimKlim - 04-23-2014

I dunno I like it, they're cropping up like cockroaches in NOVA. Now that you say it the nose could definitely use a little facelift but the overall car is extremely good looking, especially from the rear 3/4 when you see them in traffic.

There's a nice older lady with a couple cars that shows up at the Fairfax C&C. She has whatever the base model one is and let me sit in it, it really is an incredibly well put together car. It's extremely roomy inside because there's no pesky trans tunnel or engine stealing space from the cabin.

its a nice profile and rear end, but the front end is really meh. especially the awful awful LED DRLs.

lots of the enviro-douches that bought priuses as a status symbol are now trading up to these here in NoVA. I see 3-4 every day.

I do like it as a whole, but yeah, I can see a little 2009+ Eclipse in the front. maybe if they throw some RS4 mesh instead of a high gloss plastic bar in the front it'd be more awesomer.

Big fan of these. I see them daily in Maryland in all types of colors. I sat in one when they had the dealership in DC and the dash was amazing. The rear facing seats in the back are also a cool nod to oldschool wagons.

Calling first in line right now for the Tesla Sport Wagon

Re: Spotted in the wild - WRXtranceformed - 04-23-2014

I sat in one and got to play around with it at the Tesla store in Tyson's. Pretty amazing piece of technology and you are right, the tablet/console thing is insane. Your nav screen is incredible, you can see like everything around you. Definitely agree that the looks are super meh though. The Fisker Karma isn't the best looking car ever made but as its sorta-competitor it looks like an Aston compared to the Model S:

Re: Spotted in the wild - JPolen01 - 04-23-2014

How is the now defunct Fisker brand even a sort of competitor?

Re: Spotted in the wild - WRXtranceformed - 04-23-2014

Was is a better word I suppose. I saw a Karma in DC and another one in Atlanta and they both looked pretty hot

Re: Spotted in the wild - SlimKlim - 04-23-2014

Karma is coming back apparently, the new Chinese owners said something about getting them back on the road in a year or two.

Re: Spotted in the wild - Evan - 04-23-2014

There was also a plan to put v8s in the unsold stock. (Karma..ha)

The massive in-dash tablet is, to me, a UX/UI nightmare. Try going 70 mph and trying to aim your finger juuust right to adjust the fan speed. Oops, you canceled your navigation. Let's restart that. Oops, now the heated seats are on. Turn those off. Dammit, I wanted NPR not Pitbull.

^ That's how my entire ownership would go.

I agree, but considering how many manufacturers are going to touch screens, at least having a BIG ONE capable of big buttons is a better compromise.

There's a Tesla I've seen driving around campus, actually.
