TVR Coming Back (again)? - G.Irish - 06-06-2013

I just love the TVR philosophy of making outrageously-styled, bonkers sports cars that rightly focus on being light (although maybe not so great on the handling, reliability, flammability, etc.). Sometimes I think that if TVR's were sold here that A. The company never would've gotten sold to some random Russian guy, and B. I would be driving a used TVR right now. But then I remember that even the issues under warranty on the Panigale irritated me, I probably wouldn't have the patience for a TVR. But still, one can dream!

From the TVR Sagaris wiki:

Quote:As with all modern TVRs the Sagaris ignores the European Union guideline that all new cars should be fitted with ABS and at least front airbags because Peter Wheeler believed that such devices promote overconfidence and risk the life of a driver in the event of a rollover, which TVRs are engineered to resist.[2] It also eschews electronic driver's aids (such as traction control or electronic stability control).

Supposedly one of the aborted plans to revive TVR involved putting LSx engines in them, I'd be pretty freaking happy if they did that. Hell, they wouldn't even need to change the Sagaris there. Put in a V8, put in some airbags to satisfy the NHTSA, and rock and roll. Don't know if they'd pass crash tests but maybe they could get a waiver.

Re: TVR Coming Back (again)? - BLINGMW - 06-06-2013

psh, why would they design it so it'd be anywhere close to passing US crash standards?! That would clearly promote overconfidence.
Maybe they should just call it a motorcycle. :dunno:

Re: TVR Coming Back (again)? - G.Irish - 06-06-2013

They could just take off two wheels and sell it in the US as a motorcycle. Then customers would have to buy the other two to put it on the road. Brilliant!

Re: TVR Coming Back (again)? - BLINGMW - 06-06-2013

Sounds like TVR took our idea of the Mysterio to the next level. The product should intentionally kill the operator if they are operating it incorrectly. Good incentive to read the instructions. :dunno:

Now you're thinking!
God, I am LOL with this image of a dealer lot full of shiny, sexy new cars all lined up and listing to one side with the missing passenger side wheels.

And this comment nails it:

WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG?!

 that was awesome, customer calling to complain how dead he was  And wow, those gauges, seriously?
*edit*
I thought I wanted to work for Tesla, but now I see TVR would be a MUCH better fit for me. Maybe I'm qualified to run their legal department?
Dear Mr Customer,
We have received your complaint of the car directly causing you to die. However, we would like to inform you that you have experienced the one ultimate safety feature the car does have, so a congratulations is in order. We do regret that you will not be available to purchase another TVR, but hope that you would say the car met your, and our, expectations.

Yeah I mean you could easily help them solve problems. Rocks flying through the fender vents and crack the windshield? Don't fucking close the vents, put some grill under there to let air flow through but stop the rocks. Problem solved.

Come on Gerald. Think out of the box. NO WINDSHIELD. duh.

I like your thinking. Instead of adding something to solve a problem, you have subtracted something to solve a problem, thereby saving weight. You have also added the benefit that any customer who chooses not to wear a helmet while driving the car will get their teeth knocked out, thereby teaching them not to drive without a helmet.

it IS a motorcycle after all.

I imagine the owners manual looking a bit like this:

big power, light weight, questionable fit and finish, nothing but a radio... sounds like a perfect daily driver for me.

1/2 of Bullfrog now owns TVR? Awesome.

Re: TVR Coming Back (again)? - G.Irish - 07-02-2013

2 cars coming, no real details yet. Unfortunately it doesn't sound like they'll be coming to the US anytime soon. I guess I'll be able to buy a TVR when I'm an old man or if I move to the UK.

Re: TVR Coming Back (again)? - G.Irish - 06-04-2015

Sounds like things are firming up. The great news is that TVR will be using Gordon Murray's iStream chassis technology for their cars. Basically it's a tube frame chassis with composite panels bonded to the tubes to make a very rigid but light and cheap to produce chassis.

Quote:The basis of the chassis is formed by a structure of fairly big-diameter steel tubes, with ultra-light composite panels bonded in to boost rigidity. The construction method was pioneered on Murray’s T25 and T27 city cars, which demonstrated remarkable rigidity in crash tests. Materials for the outer panels are still being decided, but a combination of aluminium and composite parts is likely.

“We’re very pleased with the way iStream, which was designed for volume projects, can be adapted to applications like this one,” said Murray. “It still delivers all the efficiency advantages it was designed to do.”

I was hoping Lotus would be the first to market with this type of chassis in a sports car but TVR is the next best thing (or better). And Cosworth-tuned American V8's (probably Ford) should be perfect. I'd prefer an LS/LT but think how badass it would be if the at flat crank GT350 motor made it in there.

This is a stupid supercar I could get behind. A little disappointed that it'll have ABS and traction control but overall I am excite.
