Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Apoc - 11-18-2015

I'm pretty sure we've talked about it a handful of times in this thread. I'd search for the words skeet or trap and see what comes up.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - 95SVTCobra - 11-18-2015

I did a quick search for Remington 870, couldn't find much. But I sure will, thanks!

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - ispoonwithmugen - 11-18-2015

I found a used 870 for under 200 bucks that I've been using for clay, works great. If you can push your budget I would definitely look away from Pump. I also have an 870 Tactical for home, like it alot.

I use this for actual bird hunting. Once you get good with a pump, its just about as fast as a semi...i only ever miss from taking a bad shot, not being slow.

*eyeroll* for what a browning pump costs you could get a nice semi auto. Pumps are good because they are cheap. When they stop being cheap, they stop being good.

I discuss buying a shotgun in my thread:

SexyRexy Wrote:Rex, I want to buy a Shotgun.
Cool! I shoot my shotgun probably more than any other gun I own! It's alot of fun, and shotguns are VERY versatile boomsticks.

I normally recommend you purchase the most expensive shotgun you can afford. You will never say to yourself, "Gee, I wish I'd bought a cheaper shotgun." This is true of any firearm, really. But I digress, there are 3 main types:
Over/Under (or SideBySide):
Pretty much the simplest design. Two tubes, a hinge in the middle, and a trigger assembly. Good for all the sporting clay games (most popular with this crowd, I'd say) and they definitely have an element of style. Excellent for hunting also. However, they only hold 2 shells at a time, they tend to be expensive, and they aren't really all that good for defense.
Semi Automatic:
They can be gas powered or recoil powered, but basically as long as you have shells loaded in the magazine, every time you pull the trigger that puppy is gonna spit lead. They are good for sporting clay games, good for hunting, and excellent for self defense. However, they tend to be more maintenance intensive and more expensive than
Pump Action:
The most common footprint of shotgun. Each time you fire, you must manually "pump" the action backwards to eject the spent shell and then forwards to load a new one before you can fire again. These are inexpensive and reliable, but not as good for the sporting clay games as the previous two.

The only pump shotguns I own are legacy items. Besides price there is literally no upside to a pump action, but lots of downsides. (Slow, short stroke malfs difficult to clear, etc)

I'd look for a Remington 1100/11-87, Winchester SX3, or, if you must, a Mossberg 930. The turkish recoil-driven Beretta clones are also quite good, though not as nice as an italian example.

I either own, have owned, or have run many rounds through all of the examples I give. I also own or have owned 870's, 500's, and Browning BPS's and the only one I currently possess is a 20ga BPS, as it was my grandfathers.

Do what you want, but that's my advice and on this subject, I know what the fuck I am talking about.

Truth! I always go to Rex for my firearm related questions, haven't been let down yet.

+1 on the SX3 if it's in your budget range. One of the best purchases I have ever made and it puts a huge grin on my face when I shoot it

HAULN-SS Wrote:I don't have much to add, but if you're short stroking, that's a personal problem. It just takes practice, like anything.

It happens, and it can especially happen under stress. I've seen more than a few people who definitely know which end of the gun bullets come out of have their shotguns taken completely out of the "fight" by a short stroke. I stand by my recommendation: semi autos are better, more useful, and easier to use than pumps. :bootyshake:

Yeah, that's a BFD and it's kind of disappointing, because I am much more effective with a reticle than I am with just a dot, I guess I'll have to go with trij from now on or something. Undecided

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Goodspeed - 12-15-2015

Put the finishing touches on my first AR build tonight and snapped a few pics - it's a Palmetto State Armory mid-length kit built on a McKay stripped lower w/Magpul MOE hg & stock, MOE+ grip, MBUS and a B5 Gripstop. First pewpew session will be this Saturday at the IWLA range near Leesburg. I've wanted to build one for years, can't wait to get proficient with it. I've got my range card for the NRA indoor facility near me, I have a feeling I'll be hanging out there a lot too Smile

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - CaptainHenreh - 12-16-2015

Bummer about your (apparently) triangular handguard cap, makes for a little extra work to do the SL handguards, which you should do post-haste because they are dope as hell.

Add reflex optic and an SSA-E post-haste.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - JustinG - 12-16-2015

So the mlok stuff is worth the upgrade?

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - WRXtranceformed - 12-16-2015

Nice choice on the PSA upper, my full PSA has been an absolute dream to own and operate. Aside from the cosmetics and functional upgrades, right out of the box it has been a hoss and "feels" just as good if not better when pulling the trigger than buddies of mine who paid 2x what I did for a BCM, etc. rifle. Just as accurate, better trigger pull, you can't go wrong for their pricing.

JustinG Wrote:So the mlok stuff is worth the upgrade?

I think so. Accessory mounting is a piece of cake, and the SL handguards are sexy and feel great.

Also, if this doesn't arouse you and make you want to cup Magpul's balls for inventing MLOK I don't know how to help you:

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - WRXtranceformed - 12-16-2015

That's cool, is there any realistic way those prongs could be jostled and cause your attachments to fall off? Do they both have to be pressed at the same time (on both sides) in order for it to disengage?

WRXtranceformed Wrote:That's cool, is there any realistic way those prongs could be jostled and cause your attachments to fall off? Do they both have to be pressed at the same time (on both sides) in order for it to disengage?

Not really. They're spring loaded, and I believe you do have to press both at the same time. A "regular" MLOK accessory uses a small hex wrench to mount and dismount, still very fast once you have it set up, and good return to zero, as well as superior resistance to loosening compared to Keymod.

It's really good, I'm trying to transition as many things as I am able over to MLOK, even if it's just for quick bipod & flashlight mounting changes.

Nice, maybe i will make that a project next year as well. I have the same handguard as goodspeed but since I am wanting to swap out the optic and stuff and set up the gun for longer range, I may look into a free float option and a better stock. It would be nice to be able to swap a bipod on and off quickly.

Yep, triangular. I'll have to cop a feel on the SL, I love the standard ones as is though. Straight to a Geissele huh? Again, something I'd like to try, that's a lot of coin. I'll be practicing with & getting used to the irons for a good while before I look into optics too
