Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Evan - 12-01-2014

Good info Rex, thanks for the input. I think I have a good action plan now on what I want to do.
Good to hear you like the 556xi, over all my reading that was the rifle that I liked the best and wasnt way overbudget.

Make no mistake, Id prefer an ambi capable rifle over a specialized lefty rifle. There is also a distinct possibility that I either go back to righty and/or just decide that shooting rifles isnt for me which makes a standard non-specialized gun all the more important.
I do think the eject port does make more of a difference than you let on though, brass ejecting towards your head in your line of sight (even if it doesnt hit you) is distracting and disconcerting. Its probably a 'get used to it' thing, but its definitely not ideal.

SCAR looks awesome, but I put it in the same camp as the ACR and the other next gen battle rifles, just nogonna spend that much $$. Id buy the 556XI before I spend almost twice as much on a SCAR. (you can punch me in the dick but id rather have the 556xi than the sr-15)

Step one, Ive ordered an ambi saftey, for shooting at the range I dont see anything else I absolutely need to shoot lefty safe. I can just take my time with the charging handle and bolt release. Also ordered a decent red dot which may even let me shoot righty easier.
When those get here Ill put some time at the range shooting lefty and re-evaluate from there. If its working out, 556xi will come home with me. (and either sell my ar or get an ambi charging handle and bolt release)

AK is a tempting idea too for shits. I mean everybody should have an AK......

So I think part of the ejection thing, and I'm not going all "OPERATOR GON' OPERATE" on you, but part of it is maybe just needing to do some dynamic shooting. Shooting on the move, multiple targets, reactive targets. Shooting on paper from a bench, yeah, it's hella distracting. But that's because you've only gotta worry about your breathing and your trigger and your sight picture. Don't need to use spare cycles for "shooting the next target"...when you do that, shit like "brass in your line of site" just evaporates. Don't have time to be distracted by it.

And yeah, an AK is cool. Another reason for you to buy an XI. The SIG SG 55x series is basically an AK that doesn't suck. if I gave you an AK bolt and a SIG bolt you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Hell, depending on the AK, they might be interchangeable. And the 556XI has all cool bits to convert to Kalash mags and x39 bolt and barrel. So if you bought a 556xi, you basically have a 5.56 AK that doesn't suck to use, and then if you wanted an ACTUAL ak that doesn't suck to use, all you gotta do is call SIG and buy the kit.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - CaptainHenreh - 12-01-2014

Also, you wanting the XI instead of the SR-15 is no big deal, I just am in the "buy once, cry once" camp these days. If you want an AR, buy a great one, don't cheap out and then get pissy when it sucks.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - BLINGMW - 12-11-2014

If those of you near Alexandria don't have anything to do this saturday morning, go show up at City Hall at 9:30 and help the VCDL make their point about the innapropriate "no guns" sign on the Alexandria PD's door, and get them to stop distributing this misleading flier to local businesses. Sounds fun!

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Ryan T - 12-14-2014

Took in a Winchester 1400 semi-auto 28" barrel 12ga shotgun on trade for some garage equipment that I wasn't using. It's not the prettiest or the best model ever was but it's in pretty decent shape. Action runs smooth, haven't had a chance to shoot it yet though. I already had a pump action shotgun and a bolt action shotgun so a semi-auto was next on the list. Now just need to find a good breakaway.

Hey hey kids, steal your parent's gun (felony), take it to school (felony), and hand it over to the teacher!

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - JJohnson - 01-15-2015

Are there any cool/nicer places to go shoot trap around here? I’m thinking of bringing my shotgun down next time I visit my parents.

Also, I finally made it to The Gun Range in Mt Crawford a few weeks back, loved that place.

Flying Rabbit, but I've never been.

I’ll check that out, thanks!

Do you live in a student apartment? I can't remember if our lease agreement said no handguns or no firearms period. May want to be careful since they come in and do checks and what not

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - JustinG - 01-15-2015

I've been to flying rabbit, I enjoyed it. Challenging stations and pretty affordable.

I don’t live in student housing, thanks though! I’m good to go, but definitely should be a reminder for all the students here. Usually the police stations have safe storage for firearms.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - WRXtranceformed - 01-30-2015

Thoughts on this for my takedown? I like that it folds up even tighter and still fits in the bag that it came with. I doubt I would get any piccatiny rails or attachments for it but I like the option if I wanted

Looks ok to me.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Jeff - 02-03-2015

Anyone else want a KSG? I've been thinking on selling my Mossberg and getting one now that the prices are downish. I have only held one once and and I can't really remember if it felt like a cheap piece of shit. (This is mostly to troll Rex but for real anyone?)

Goddammit VEPR12's are still 899 and this basic n**** talkin' bout some KSG buuuuuuullshit.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Ryan T - 02-04-2015

Agent I work with a lot has one and really likes it. He brought it to open range day and I put a few rounds through it. Super short, light, smooth shooting gun. Only thing that can be tricky is switching between tubes from time to time. Otherwise, awesome shooting gun. He said it is much like all other kel-tecs and requires about a 100 round break-in.

Did it FEEL cheap? I have a PF9 so I know KelTec manufacturing and I have a hard time thinking it could even be worth the MSRP. I would feel better if they were like $600. I really need to get my hands on one (that's what she said).

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Ryan T - 02-04-2015

Feels cheap like most other kel-tecs.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - WRXtranceformed - 02-12-2015

The future of marksmanship? Probably. Computers do everything else for us now, might as well make the shot too.
