Switched to NC Farm Bureau insurance, saved $400.00+ / year. Returned remainder of my prepaid 6 month premium with Allstate is enough to pay for 6 months of NCFB. Win.

Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - D_Eclipse9916 - 01-18-2013

Welp, this morning I called around to two other places to get quotes. Both were far more expensive than Geico. In fact, Allstate was more than double my current auto insurance premium!

Who are you guys also looking at?

I looked at these but I am wondering what other reputable companies to bounce quotes off to get the best price:
Geico
AllState
State Farm

Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Apoc - 01-18-2013

car - Progressive
bike - Geico

I'd also check esurance.

Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Sijray21 - 02-24-2013

I used Progressive for my moto when i had one (best rates i could find, excellent service, and great values on vehicles/parts that i had busted or stolen). Using USAA now, but i'm not sure if you have access to that.

Derecola - have you had experience with esurance? if so, how were they?

Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Apoc - 02-24-2013

No, but Evan has: viewtopic.php?p=150649#p150649

That was 5 years ago, so I wonder how Allstate buying them as impacted their rates and service.

Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - ViPER1313 - 02-24-2013

I just switched from Liberty Mutual to Progressive - 6 month rate went from $1040 to $528  (for 3 cars w/ 250/500/100 limits)

homeowners, anyone look at their homeowners insurance rates lately? Mine have gone up 40% in 2 years. With no claims or anything out of the ordinary.

Mine went up as well. I called and inquired and they said simply just do to "local" events. I tried calling a few others, and all were above what I already have so I left it at that.

Mine have gone up too. It's definitely not as cheap as it used to be. Named item coverage is kind of ridiculous too...it basically almost doubled my premium adding an engagement ring to it as a named piece of jewelry.

Yup, up 55% this year. We lost the appeal on the fire station mileage (last page). So, escrow is not only taking more for the higher amount, but also making up for the deficit. My "fixed" mortgage went up $242/month. Previous year increase was about 20%.

Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - HAULN-SS - 03-11-2013

Must be a virginia thing. Mine has been pretty stable over the last 5 years or so.

What the heck? $242/mo increase just for homeowners insurance? That is absolute sodomy if that is the case

Did you look into a separate inland marine policy for just the ring as an option?

Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - WRXtranceformed - 03-12-2013

I did not, what is the difference? I just called my agent and had it added onto HO

So it looks like it's time for my auto policy to renew..

I have one ticket from a fender bender in 2010 and the drunk driver hit and run in 2012.

Can someone explain to me why liability only on a 98 XJ is still $1118 for the whole goddamn year through Progressive!?

I'm not sure, we pay that for 1 car with full coverage through state farm, and our cars are no older than 2002. I think the 89 jeep with liablity was like $500 for the year maybe?

Holy shitballs.

Call up Geico. I pay almst $250 less than you do in comprehensive. (on both vehicles)

It has to be something with the demographic of that jeep. My vert is worth ~$6k, my truck 4x that (and considered my daily in mileage according to insurance), and the Vert is more expensive to insure.

Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - V1GiLaNtE - 04-16-2013

Yea seriously.. and the bitch is marked as "pleasure" and "garaged" in Hburg

Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - SlimKlim - 04-16-2013

Check out esurance too. Its underwritten by All-State and they gave me the cheapest rate BY FAR.

Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - V1GiLaNtE - 04-16-2013

Yea fuck Progressive. Geico just gave me a quote for ~825 for the whole year.

Edit: Still $800 for the whole year seems high..? :dunno:
