Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Apoc - 02-01-2012 Those reports are greatly exaggerated. I have yet to find anyone who isn't a Jimmy Johns delivery guy that rides a bike to work. (There are actually a lot of people out on the streets commuting, but I haven't met one yet.) Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Ryan T - 02-03-2012 I was amazed at how much insurance changed just by getting married. Our home insurance is through the same company but after we got married we were able to combine everything into one policy. With my truck and Samanthas car our insurance went from ~$980 to ~$720 every 6 months. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Apoc - 02-03-2012 Apoc Wrote:Insurance is expensive in WA. Progressive auto is $615/year for the same coverage, including a marginal first purchase discount. Guess Flo is gettin' my cash. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - davej - 02-03-2012 The best thing you can do for your insurance is get old, married and buy a house. (and don't live in a major metro area) currently have geico with 300/300 limits, collision/glass/$250 deductible on both the forester xt (granted, it's no sti) and the s4, bill is $470 for 6 months. no house right now, and still listed in NY so we'll see what happens when we get a place down here and switch it over. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Apoc - 02-06-2012 Apoc Wrote:Apoc Wrote:Insurance is expensive in WA. Correction: $674/year Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - D_Eclipse9916 - 02-06-2012 davej Wrote:The best thing you can do for your insurance is get old, married and buy a house Buying a house dropped my car insurance by exactly....40 dollars
Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Evan - 02-07-2012 I didnt get much of a discount for turning 25, turning 30, getting married, or buying a house! (must be the lotus) Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Apoc - 02-07-2012 That stuff only really matters if you were relatively high risk to begin with. These days, credit rating is a much bigger deal than those factors. If you've always had decent credit, you aren't likely to see much savings by ticking any of those boxes. I was saving $500/year on my homeowners for combing with auto, but it didn't do shite for my auto policy. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Steve85 - 09-20-2012 Moved the Vette to Hagerty a year ago. Got dropped shortly after the accident (not my fault) citing things going back to a deer I hit 3 years ago in a different car, a ticket from another driver in the house, and a claim on car we don't have anymore from 2 years ago. All things that were there prior to signing up last year. So back to Allstate and metaphorical... Speaking of Allstate, we'll be shopping them on our cars and house. Homeowners policy is possibly going up 55% - fifty fucking five percent!!! Because some ISO company said we are 7 miles, not 4.7, from the nearest fire station. The agents are appealing for us. We think they, the independent organization, ignored the closer station because we are in Frederick County and that station is a Winchester City station. They did confirm that they are the first responders for our address though. I feel like the agent is preparing me for the worst by also pointing out the increased risk if the nearest station is a volunteer station not fully manned 24/7. That really means that they are looking to hand me a 55% increase for a slightly higher risk profile during a few hours. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - WRXtranceformed - 09-24-2012 My Allstate homeowners premium went up too. Insurance is such a racket, so frustrating. People say that, until they need it. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Apoc - 09-24-2012 I lost my roof on one house and the siding on the back of another. I've also had about $20,000 in auto claims over the years. Fun? No.... but I think it's a lot like the cops - people complain until they actually need them. Progressive motorcycle renewal came in at $686 (down $26 from previous) so I decided to look around. I managed to get similar coverage with same or lower deductibles (even lower than Progressive's vanishing deductible) for $563 from Geico. Geico also has an interesting "Winter Storage" feature that allows you to disable all but Comprehensive over the winter. You can't ride the motorcycle during this period, but the savings are significant. I went ahead and enabled it until 4/1 so I'll end up saving well over $100. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - WRXtranceformed - 12-31-2012 I've got a broker shopping the market for me right now. Currently @ $1k/6 months with a few blemishes on the record, which is pretty ridiculous. With Allstate right now. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Apoc - 12-31-2012 $2k/year with a few blemishes? Do they involve vehicular manslaughter? Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - WRXtranceformed - 12-31-2012 One ticket one accident (partial fault, long story but it should have been all the other party's fault). Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Jake - 01-07-2013 Ended up keeping Geico for my auto insurance after buying the ST. They're who I've had since I started driving, and have treated me well and given me a good rate (IMO). With the E36 and Miata on liability-only, my 6-month premium was $554. I dropped the E36 and added the ST (with full coverage) and it went up to $724. Considering esurance wanted to charge me double that, I'm happy. I have two speeding tickets (both about 10 mph over) in the past two years, and one not-at-fault collision in the Miata on my record. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Kaan - 01-07-2013 CRX is twice as much to insure as the integra... i'm still trying to figure that one out. between the house, apartment (until april 1), 4 motorcycles, two cars, and the jeep... we are using a state farm/progressive combo |
