- .RJ - 01-15-2006 I thought about gusseting, and I may add it in later. But for now, I've got something thats pretty stout and strong enough. I'd like to add another bar from the a-pillar down to the door bars as well in the future. - Kaan - 01-16-2006 hey sl00t... isnt that cage supposed to be gold? - .RJ - 01-16-2006 Where's my logbook? Get up here
- Kaan - 01-16-2006 I'll be at VIR thrusday evening at 7pm-ish for you and chad... so i can sign your log books tap your holes you sl00t! both of you! i dont want to have you two show up unprepaired.
- Mike - 01-16-2006 thats a fucking sweet cage. how much? feel free to im me if you don't want to share... - .RJ - 01-16-2006 Total bill, including rollbar already done, was $2500 hock:However, doing a cage in these cars requires some fabrication and relocation of shit that eats up time (about 1/3 of the time spent on the front half of the cage was this misc crap) and included: - Window net and mounting tabs - Kill switch bracket and mounting - Notching, bending, relocating brackets to fit dash bar - Relocate ECU to floorboard - Relocate Main fuse/control panel under driver side dash - Tabs to mount dashboard (stock brackets removed for forward tubes) - Gusseting - Harness bar tabs - Paint on forward tubes (hard to get painted when they're in the car) - Mounting and tabs to bolt driver side glass in - Interior Door Release "clearancing" I'm sure there's a few other things I forgot, but you get the idea. Also, Piper is 25 minutes away, and this shit was done in only 3 days hock:Having such a good cage builder so close thats done so quickly is really worth paying a little more for. I've seen some of his cages hold up to really nasty shit - I watched a car barrel roll through the T10 gravel trap at nearly 100mph and he was fine. - Andy - 01-16-2006 How much would a roll bar cost? - .RJ - 01-16-2006 ~700-800 depending on what you have done, paint, etc. - Mike - 01-16-2006 for a car that small i'd think less, no? - .RJ - 01-16-2006 Most likely more - remember, its all T&M - so in a small car it may be harder to get a good fit. I brought my 'teg in with no rear interior so it was an easy job. - Evan - 01-16-2006 not gold = ![]() otherwise lookin' bling! - Andy - 01-16-2006 Pardon my ignorance, but what are the advantages of having a roll bar made as opposed to buying a bolt-in affair from Autopower which is ~370 bucks? - .RJ - 01-16-2006 Evan Wrote:not gold = I really wanted to, but I dont have the patience to mask the whole car off twice. Andy Wrote:Pardon my ignorance, but what are the advantages of having a roll bar made as opposed to buying a bolt-in affair from Autopower which is ~370 bucks? Much better fit and they fab shop can put it anywhere you want to bolt it in, give more room where needed, etc. - Chris - 01-16-2006 well if its only a little bit more, I'll prob go with a weld in roll bar. the one I've been lookign at is a 6pt bolt in from kirk for around $650. I like the idea of having at least one door bar for now while doing hpde's. - .RJ - 01-16-2006 If you get a custom weld in rollbar, then you can finish into a full cage later - and if you have any plans to race, you will want a custom welded cage, no question. Everyone I have seen that started with a bolt-in ripped it out and had a weld in done after a year. - white_2kgt - 01-16-2006 .RJ Wrote:If you get a custom weld in rollbar, then you can finish into a full cage later - and if you have any plans to race, you will want a custom welded cage, no question. Kaan Wrote:I'll be at VIR thrusday evening at 7pm-ish for you and chad... so i can sign your log books What holes? - Kaan - 01-16-2006 jesus .... you need a 3/16 hole in your main hoop, a door bar, and another one in a "other" brace. I'd put them on the passanger side if i were you guys.
- Ginger - 01-16-2006 Kaan Wrote:jesus Out of curiousity (race bikes don't have cages :-D) what are the holes for? - .RJ - 01-16-2006 To get your annual tech they need to measure the cage diam and thickness to make sure its in spec (according to the weight of the car) At least we dont have to safety wire anything. - Ginger - 01-16-2006 .RJ Wrote:To get your annual tech they need to measure the cage diam and thickness to make sure its in spec (according to the weight of the car) Safety wire pliers are cheap, j00 can borrow mine anytime. I can't say as much about that cage
