I mean, the money is already spent, so it doesn't matter now. I don't care about replacing the wheels, I care about the tires. The tires won't be replaced if they aren't on OEM wheels.

Y'all take everything I say so literally and don't assume there is a larger picture idea going on without me spelling it out.

The money is spent.

I'll follow the rules.

If I buy wheels, they'll be OEM.

Anyway, man, like i said. i was just giving you something to think about given experiences i had seen from others actually getting this followed through on, VW specifically. I would think it would complicate further if you have wheels on that were not on the car at point of sale, despite what they say. No need to get pissy. As always you do you, love the car and wish you all the best with it.

Tire road hazard warranty is typically $10 a tire. I think costco throws it in for free.

So you are paying $960 to insure your ugly factory wheels against getting bent so bad they wont hold air. (which, fwiw, has never happened to me in my entire life) Wheels that can probably be bought as take-offs for well under $100 each.

Its a (well known) dealer scam. Get a refund.

Did you buy the "paint protection" or "upholstery treatment" too?

You do you, but I’m with Evan. The only thing worth buying at the closing of a vehicle sale is GAP insurance. And in most cases your credit union will sell you GAP cheaper than the dealer. Protection packages, wheel and tire packages, etc. All a waste of money.

Well, since the cats out of the bag, I paid for the following:

- Wheel and tire protection
- Carpet protection
- Windsheild insurance
- Steering wheel replacement
- New car scent guarantee
- Battery polish package
- Cup holder refurbish package
- Paint chip protection on door handles and hood
- Seat scotchguard

I'll probably keep the wheel thing for a while then see how I feel about these big wheels and small tires on a Nova commute. I have New Car Replacement through my insurance instead of GAP this time around, so hopefully that's not a scam too.

Sound strategy if it gives you peace of mind. FWIW, I blew out my mom's Beetle tire on the George Washington in this MONSTROUS pothole. For some reason the damn thing was fitted with 19in wheels with 40H tires. Wheel was perfectly fine, even though i hit my head on ceiling from how hard i hit, tire cost me $150 to replace. I don't know how bad it would have to be to bend wheel enough for air to leak.

Car looks sweet, btw.

New car replacement is legit from what a few coworkers have experienced. As for the tag, I’m a sucker for symmetry and prefer it in the middle. Does your model have the parking assist sensors too? If so, does that mount affect it?

Got a couple coats of sealant on mine yesterday and braved the cold & wind this morning to get some photos of it all cleaned up in the sun. I fucking love this color, it looks different pretty much every time you look at it.

While Joey's car is looking great. Mine and Zach's both took hits during the storm with nice new chips in our hoods (from flying shingles, we assume) and my door got caught in the wind when opening it and it now has a spot I need to fill.

If I was to complain about anything in this car, it's the shifter feel. It feels really nice compared to all of the blown out shifts I've felt, but it is more vague than I expected. The 6-3 downshift is actually really hard to do. The shifter gets caught in this twilight zone and get stuck on the "gates" inside. You have to make a very conscious effort to make 90 degree turns when navigating that shift. It's hard to get into reverse some times and shifting into 6 is not super pleasurable. I'll always compare it to a Miata, which is the nicest "click" into gear you'll ever have, but these shifters made of 50 different rubber bushings really feel "manufactured". It's like they simulate the feeling of the gears clunking into place with the rubber bushings and it causes a squishy experience. I'm sure it's 100% fine for most people, but it's just things I notice when doing stupid race-boi shifts.

I'm trying to think of how I drive but I can't recall ever going directly from 6 all the way to 3rd gear. Seems like quite the jump...or is this normal and I just do it without thinking?

6-5 is pointless and this thing revs so low at speed that shifting into 4th gear before you're below 50 mph doesn't really slow the car at all. In a higher revving car, I don't think you'd do this, but in the GTI, it's pretty common for me to do. I mean it's taking like 2000 RPM or something stupid low at 60 MPH in 6.

That sucks about the damage, but who's laughing at you now for buying the hood and door paint chip policy from the dealer!

The last derecho storm took some siding off the house and hit the s4 in a few spots. Insurance painted the hood and bumper with out a change to my premium since it was a weather disaster, might be worth talking to your agent.

Yeah having a Miata will ruin any future shifting experience.

My time in German cars has always left me wanting a better shifter. I'm not surprised the GTI is about the same.

Jumping from 6 straight to 3 is a lot. Admittedly I have no idea what your driving conditions are like but I've never skipped more than gaer at a time. It might be asking more from the synchros than they're comfortable handling and locking you out a bit until they can catch up.

I concur, I can't recall ever skipping more than 1 gear and even then I was usually too paranoid to even do that. I guess it depends on the situation

Nah. I know what Taylor is talking about it. It's just a shit shifter. Also, in that car 6-3, depending on the situation, is totally warranted. 4-6 are almost all the same. Those cars were really made for DSGs, I really feel like the manual was an after thought.

Toll booths and Route 7 where it's usually 70-75 MPH to a dead stop at a stop light about 6 times during my commute. I don't NEED to do 6-3 but it's certainly not as far fetched as it sounds. I'm not losing sleep over it.

Actually, let me point out that I like to follow what the computer tells me as far as when to shift and the car says it's most efficient to shift into 6th around 50 mph or sooner since it has the torque. So I usually find myself cruising around 1200 RPM in 6th gear when in traffic and shifting back to 5 prompts the car to tell me to shift back to 6. That should help explain why 6-3 is usually on the docket.
