While I like it, I could not see Jake driving any JDM car let alone a RHD.

Re: Spend Jake's Money. - Jake - 09-29-2016

The old Nissan circlejerk bores me. Sorry. I have no love for the 240, no love for the Skyline, none of it. I think they made a few neat cars in the mid 2000s and that's kinda it.

I have a Black 2001 330CI (coupe) in moderate shape and 240?k miles. Wanna buy it? :-)

Found the perfect 330i - <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/cto/5791317636.html">http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/ ... 17636.html</a><!-- m -->

But on a more serious note, why the 330 over a 335? The price difference seems negligible.

Yea, turbos are good things last time I checked.

I want him to buy this so bad.

Re: Spend Jake's Money. - Jake - 09-30-2016

I'm going to look at that GTO on Monday evening, that's the soonest the seller is free. I like everything about it aside from it being a GM, but it's an Aussie GM so maybe it won't be a total shitbox like most? LS would get good highway MPG and #LOLnope on my commute but who cares. Seats look comfy as fuuuu.

I have looked at E90 335i's and it seems like the 100k mile examples are right at 10-13k. May not be the worst idea, if I found one that has had fuel pumps replaced and walnuts already blasted through it. Cost of ownership still scares me but I could try it for a year and see.

Re: Spend Jake's Money. - RawrImAMonster - 09-30-2016

Yeah 335i's are getting really cheap. I loved my 135i as a daily and never really had many problems out of it. The issues they had with HPFP's are all solved with software updates by now. Throw a JB4 and a charge pipe on it and have a fast comfortable daily.

Now that they are getting older, depreciation shouldn't be as big of a deal as when I had mine.

Edit: Almost all of them have had their fuel pumps replaced at this point. Walnut blasting typically isn't more than 3-500 too. You can do it without the walnut blaster, but it's somewhat of a pain to clean all the intake valves. Do watch out for water pumps though, they typically have a 60k-ish life span.

i looked into these really hard years ago when i was still commuting a lot. seemed like the absolute perfect GT car. the '04's with the "small" LS will actually get really surprising highway mpg's on long cruises, like 28+....and with a tune you can unlock a "lean cruise" mode that was stock on the aussie cars which will allow for almost 30 (but on 93oct i'm sure). they do have smaller brakes though. some parts are NOT easy to replace since all the US parts stocks are drying up but you can still get them from didgeridoo-land (think interior stuff and some random body parts like door handles or whatever).

the guages/seats/overall finish was way above par for GM of that era. there's plenty of aftermarket support for these too if you want it to turn better / stop harder / more go. mechanically they're like giant E30's...struts and big dumb trailing arms. they come in ridiculous colors too if you're into that and want to hunt a bit more.

Re: Spend Jake's Money. - RawrImAMonster - 09-30-2016

If you go the GTO route, watch out for the suspension. They tend to have problems with struts rubbing the inside of the tires. I can't remember what part actually causes the problem off the top of my head, but they are known for it.

I have a friend that had (maybe still has?) a GTO w/ e-cuts and god damn that bastard is loud. And yes as Jake said the seats are glorious. It's like driving a lazy boy with a v8 attached.

Soo...you want a fat, skinny tired corvette? Meh.

Prediction: Won't last the year.

Better than a BMW last owned by Katie at Alpha Delta Phi who traded it in because daddy loves her and all the other sisters drive Range Rovers. Katie has to keep up appearances or she will never find a good guy.

A GTO is not a race car, which is ideal because NOVA streets are not the uphill esses at VIR.

honestly, that sounds like it would be a riot to drive around at sane speeds. ass out whenever you want. sounds a lot more entertaining than another E46 unless he has some interesting plans for it.

if you want a light, fat-tired corvette, buy a vette...but you're not getting one for his budget.
