Played about an hour of AC3 last night. I love this series.
So far they seemed to have REALLY smoothed out the climbing / free run physics, which are about the only complaints I ever had with the game. It should definitely improve gameplay and make you feel more ninja-like. Achievements in-game now unlock stuff in multiplayer from what I was reading. I have never tried multiplayer on any of the AC games that have had it, but I might check it out.
There is also a little bit of a gap in the storyline between the last one and the first one...unless I am forgetting about it which is entirely possible. But in the last one, I don't seem to remember Desmond realizing that he had to save the world from a mega-disaster solar flare. Oh well!

In related news, I preordered H4 yesterday. Decided to go with the microsoft store instead of AMZN.
Here's why.
So in the past, AMZN had offered not only release day delivery (even though I didn't get it with ME3) but they also offered a credit on future video game purchases. Since I purchase *new* video games about every 3 months, this worked out fairly well for me.
For Halo 4, they offered...10 dollars in Amazon instant video credit. OH Amazon, you shouldn't have! Instant video credit? Well I was *hoping* for a hard dick in my ass but I guess I'll take 10 dollars in instant video credit instead.
Seriously, what the blue fuck.
Microsoft, on the other hand, gave me 25 dollars against a future video game purchase, also gave me free shipping, but sadly, I had to pay tax. However, even if I pay tax on both this game and the game I intend to purchase (Far Cry 3) that's 7 dollars in tax, which means I essentially get 18 dollars off my combined pair of purchases compared to the amazon price...instead of 10 dollars off of something I will never ever buy please kill yourself whoever thought of this promotion.

On another note.... ...anyone want my Wii + every accessory I own? Before I send it to amazon for trade in or get raped by gamestop I figured I'd check here. $100 for everything I got, 4 of everything (controller/nunchuck/motion plus), games(mario kart, big game hunter, sports, sports resort, hasbro game night) wii fit board, 4 remote charger w/ rechargable batteries, sports attachements/guns, etc, etc

I'm cautiously optimistic about H4. They got rid of Firefight but they added episodic campaign content where you get a new set of 5 campaign missions every week (replete with cut scenes that are part of the storyline) that you can play co-op on. There'll be 10 weeks in season 1, which will be free.
I usually play a lot of multiplayer but I'm down to play co-op if anyone else is buying it.
Initially I wasn't interested in the live action shorts they've been showing in the run up to release, but I watched them this weekend and they're actually pretty decent. For the impatient I'd recommend just watching episodes 3 and 4. Check out Forward Unto Dawn on youtube: EDIT: These shorts are before Halo Reach in the timeline. I was a bit confused until I realized that.

Er well after diving into AC3 last night I retract the statement about the smoothness. The physics are pretty good, but the game is REALLY glitchy. Especially on the fight scenes. This game is more heavily focused on non-detection (which I am not super crazy about, but that is a different story), and I was having an issue last night where one of the British officers was stuck pathing twice in an inopportune area. I ended up having to crawl around the bow of the ship and knife him from behind, but it made it impossible to complete one of the optional objectives of making kills from corner spots.
That's just one example, but it happened in several other spots.
Also, fighting is a lot harder in this one which I think is a good thing. At least it is now in the beginning with the first character. Part of that too is the camera angles during fight scenes. I have a feeling that a lot of the abilities that were unlocked in the last game will unlock in this one as you progress.
I love the storyline per usual, and this one kind of forces you to progress through it faster, but overall I am enjoying it.

Played through most of campaign last night/this morning. Seems like 343 was able to pick up where Bungie left off without any problem. The game is prettier and the AI feels significantly better. Quite a few moments where I just wanted to look around. Overall I'd say it's a success and a mild improvement over Reach. The cutscenes and dialogue are better and feel more natural, except for one character who is a little overdone. I'll be finishing the campaign and cracking open multiplayer tonight.
Likes
-Prometheans are a lot more fun (and difficult) to fight.
-Graphical upgrade and the environment design are top notch. There are places where you want to stare at the wide vistas and alien architecture
-Storyline is more sci-fi
-The new power weapons are really fun to use, and they're plentiful so you get to use them a lot more than is typical for a Halo campaign
-Having sprint as a built in trait makes the action faster and gives you more options in a fight
-The military dialogue sounds more authentic and less cheesy
Dislikes
-Storyline is a bit unintelligible if you don't know any of the fiction outside of the games. Even if you do it's not 100% clear what's going on.
-Armor abilities are toned down (at least in campaign). Stuff like the jetpack isn't as much fun to use anymore. Some of the new ones are cool though.
-The Banshee is neutered

I suppose that if they made it much faster it'd be really difficult to take down in multiplayer. Either that or they'd have to make it's armor very weak.

Oh? I actually really enjoyed the MP experience. I'm rusty, of course, and twitch shooters aren't exactly my forte, but it seems like Halo picked up *just enough* good Call of Duty elements while eliminating the annoying ones.
