Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - CaptainHenreh - 04-19-2013

A shootout with Chechen terrorists after they blew up the finish line of the boston marathon? One with bombs strapped to himself dead after being shot, the other one at large?

Jesus I think I saw this movie.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - WRXtranceformed - 04-23-2013

PSA has some Federal .223 in stock as of this morning: http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.ph ... -30rd.html

Ended up at about $.71 / round shipped for 5 boxes which is about as cheap as I've seen it lately for decent stuff. As of 8:49 est there is still some in stock.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - WRXtranceformed - 04-23-2013

Suggestions for a birthday gift for myself? Paying for 99% of the wedding right now so no Tavors on the table...but was looking at a couple of .22s even though ammo is hard to find right now. The 10/22 is obviously on the radar but a buddy of mine recommended some of the Savage rifles or CZs.

I would be open to other handgun ideas too if it's something different or even a shotgun as I have yet to own one. He also recommended the Remington 870 although I have had my eye on the SX3 for a while now. SX3 might be a little out of reach until after August, looking to top out at maybe $500.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Ryan T - 04-23-2013

What about a Ruger SR22 pistol? As for shotguns under $500 you can't go wrong with a Mossberg. I've owned two and I've got less than $500 in my turkey gun (835 Ulti-Mag) with 3 different chokes. Gun shoots great, has good weight and eats 2 3/4", 3" and 3.5" shells all day long. I doubt your wants in a shotgun are the same as mine but you should be able to find a 500 with a 18" barrel for under $500.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - WRXtranceformed - 04-23-2013

Nice recommendations...i actually just bought my fiancé an SR-22 as a wedding gift so i can shoot it whenever i want! I'll have to peep a few more mossbergs

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - CaptainHenreh - 04-23-2013

I'm telling you right now, if you're looking for a shotgun for trap and skeet, it's buy once, cry once. Don't short change yourself on a 299 dick's special Mossy 500.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Ryan T - 04-23-2013

If you are looking to get in to trap and skeet then like Rex said, buy a good one. But if all you want is occassional shooting/home defense, nothing wrong with a Mossberg. As far as a hunting shotgun mine has been great, but it is too long to use for a home defense weapon.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - WRXtranceformed - 04-24-2013

Would be spending a little more than I want to but I'm looking hard at this one. My coworker and buddy shoots trap / skeet a lot so I would have someone to go with pretty frequently.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - HAULN-SS - 04-24-2013

I like the gun, but I dont like the finish..but i guess thats personal preference

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - CaptainHenreh - 04-24-2013

The Permacoat is super nice. It has an almost slick/rubber feel to it, but I always liked it, to be honest! Again, like Deersty said...personal preference.

Now, someone talk me out of buying this as a refinish project: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewIt ... =338134727

Dude sweet CZ!! Do it!

This is the other finish I was looking at. I like the all black but my buddy pointed out it might get super hot when we are shooting it in the summer:

I think both finishes look sweet.

Having shot a lot of black guns in the summer, I wouldn't worry about that.

Nice, good looks. I clearly love murdered out things but in this case I think I like the two tone with the gunmetal barrel more.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - WRXtranceformed - 04-28-2013

Shot skeet this weekend for my birthday, did pretty well considering I haven't fired a shotgun in over 5 years. A new Gander Mountain opened up in a nearby town so we swung by afterwards. I got the chance to see the Black Shadow in person as well as the gunmetal finish...and I have to say I am really not feeling the synthetic furniture after getting a chance to handle them. The plastic felt REALLY cheap to me. The wooden version they had there was the Sporting version which is several hundred dollars more and felt better. The salesman there was a Level 2 instructor and taught skeet, trap and sporting clays. I asked him what a good over under would be to consider since everyone at the range used them and not the semiautomatics. He handed me a Browning 725 Citori. Dang it. I really wish I hadn't held that gun. Not only was it lighter than the SX3 while being wooden, everything about it felt higher quality. Like that is a gun I would pass on to my grandkids.

Granted it is twice the budget I was looking at but with the price of ammo right now and the relatively availability of shotgun shells I am seriously thinking that it might be a great way to get my shooting fix if I pick one up at a reasonable price on gunbroker. Any thoughts on 20ga vs. 12ga for skeet/trap/sport clays? It seems like it would be easier to manage and most of the guys there were using 20ga.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Apoc - 04-28-2013

12 ga... unless you're a chick or under 14.

+1 for Citori

Apoc Wrote:12 ga... unless you're a chick or under 14.

12 ga. even if you are a chick. Big Grin I tried to shoot trap with a 20ga. youth model for a season. Most miserable thing I did. You get used to the kick of the 12 and its not really that much more than the 20. Plus, the 20 is sometimes lighter and that's where the problem comes in. First time your entire shoulder is black and blue, you'll understand about a light gun. So I say 12 is a must.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - WRXtranceformed - 04-29-2013

Interesting thanks for the feedback. So I should avoid the feather / super light feather versions of those guns? I liked my buddies 12ga power wise so I'm good on that... I would have assumed the lighter gun is easier and quicker to aim but the lack of forgivingness on the shoulder makes sense. Browning makes a Citori as light as 6lbs 4ozs from what I can tell.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Kaan - 04-29-2013

weighted shotguns will shave your shoulder the next day but make your arms tired as the day goes on. with good technique and some initial bruises, i think going light weight is the way to go. my CZ over under is so damn heavy... 4 games in my scores really start to drop because the shotgun gets heavy.

Opinions are like assholes so here's my salty chocolate starfish:

A: The SX3 and the Citori come out of the same place, just FYI. They're going to be the same "quality", as far as that is concerned. The Citori feels more fancy because it is, but I wouldn't say it's higher quality.

B: Again, if you're going to shoot a lot of skeet and trap, go ahead and buy a Citori (edit: the nicest, fanciest one you can afford) and don't look back. Don't shop around, don't go "Oh, this Beretta is very nice too" just buy a Citori 12 gauge with a steel receiver and be happy knowing you bought the best shotgun John Moses Browning (pbuh) ever made.

C: As far as weight goes...after four rounds (100 shells) your scores are going to suffer no matter what. If it's because you chose a light gun, your shoulder will be fatigued from the recoil massage you've gotten, and if you choose a heavy gun it'll be because your forearms are tired from holding it up. I will say that *my* over/under is very light, but almost to the point of unusability after 2 rounds. After two my shoulder aches, and I start to flinch...developing a flinch is eleventy million times worse than "oh my arms are le tired" so don't listen to Kaan. Get a 8-9lb gun, not a 6lb featherweight. (edit: C is related strictly to O/U's. Semi autos recoil differently, with a longer and softer recoil pulse, and then can therefore be significantly lighter without the operator suffering from painful high recoil.)

<3 you Rex, exactly what I was looking for. Do upgraded recoil pads help at all? Or are the stock ones on those level of shotgun going to be as good as an aftermarket replacement?

I'm pretty sold on the Citori at this point as a late birthday gift to myself, just debating on what level I can afford right now with 98% of the wedding expenses falling on my shoulders.
