Anyone have a solution using android to sync phone calls and txt messages across all devices. Similar to apples handoff? Or whatever its called.

I want all my devices to ring if I receive a call or get a text. Short of only using my google voice number I cant figure out another option.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Sully - 03-13-2015

I setup the vzw text app on my tablet. My phone came with it set as default but i changed it back to the Samsung message app. But can still use the vzw message app on the tablet. It would ring/vibrate whenever I got a message. Got super annoying and I've since turned off the notifications. I don't think you realize how annoying it is having multiple devices notifying you of the same thing.

Edit: Just realized even if you have vzw, you may not have your tablet on your network. Not sure if it'll work on wifi only devices but it might

At least if you used the vzw message app on all devices, it would mark them as read I think. Using two different apps obviously the other device/app doesn't know you've read the message so the notification stays.

If you don't have Verizon wireless, this information helps you 0%

I don't have a solution for the calling part but you can also access texts from vzw.com. I forgot how but I have the page bookmarked so I'm pretty sure it would notify you as long as you leave a tab up with it running.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - JustinG - 03-13-2015

i know samsung has the Sidesync stuff, but thats bs and kills battery. I'm thinking my only choice is telling everyone to call/txt my google voice number.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Sully - 03-13-2015

It got super old, super fast. I mean i always have my phone in my pocket or on the table next to me so it was really annoying and redundant to have my tablet going off too when I got a text.

I use the PushBullet app to sync texts (and other notifications). I also use the browner plugin so I get texts and can reply on my laptop. It's nice to not have to pick up your phone when you get texts. It won't really do anything for calls though.

Apple manages to figure out which device you're using and send notifications there. So, if I'm actively using my iPad (screen on, Facebooking or fapping or whatever) and get a text, it'll have the iPad make the "new message" noise. My iPhone screen will still light up and show "John Smith - iMessage" but will not vibrate or make noise, because I wasn't using the phone most recently.

It seems that if both devices have their screens off, the iPad will default to "no noise" and the iPhone will default to whatever buzz/noise setting I have selected phone-wide.

I think they call it "Continuity" - the only weirdness I experienced was when I got a phone call as Continuity will let you pick up calls on your iPad or Mac. My iPad was streaming a Top Gear episode to my AppleTV. Somehow it decided that the best behavior was to pause the show and ring the iPad and iPhone together. But, because the iPad was streaming... it really made my phone and my surround sound start ringing.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - JustinG - 03-14-2015

My biggest gripe is having my phone and tablet around at all times. If I could get all devices to ring or use any to answer texts, the phone will stay up stairs or wherever I left it.

Next topic. IP cams. Just put the kid in her "big girl bed" and we wanna monitor movement.

Get a video monitor, or an ip cam. if so what does the group recommend. Would be nice to view from any device, instead of just the included monitor if we got a baby monitor.

Are you sure? As in, instead of sitting there watching her, you'll sit in the next room and watch her? And watching her for what, to see when she falls out of the bed? You'll hear that. :dunno:

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - JustinG - 03-14-2015

Yea. The more I think about it, we will be able to hear if she is up running around when she should be sleeping.

Could be an excuse to have a new gadget though. Ive kinda wanted a front and back door cam for when we are away.

Hmmm.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - WRXtranceformed - 03-15-2015

There have been several stories of hackers breaking into baby monitor cams and watching peoples kids / scoping out their house (due to their mostly non existent security). I'm all for keeping tabs on your home having just installed a security system but I am not of the mind that you should have anything other than CCTV recording video of your home. If it's connected to the internet then it's a major security risk...especially when it comes to your kids.

I realize people are going to have different feelings on this but I struggled with that before choosing not to add cameras to our security package.
