For that price tag it better be right from Billy Bob's local farm down the skreet and preferably something exotic like bison meat "Marketing tactician" and "local farmer" aren't generally two things that go together too well from my experience having grown up on a farm and being surrounded by them right now. You're getting sold to hard by the wholesalers to be honest, but if it's a good burger it's a good burger. I just personally wouldn't buy in on farm-to-table pricing for meat that's coming from a wholesaler that ships product to Russia and Istanbul. We don't even get eggs from the larger organic grocery store distributors here anymore unless we don't have a choice. They aren't even close to the same. If you trust the local source and you know their growing & farming practices, that's worth paying a premium for...stuff that is frozen and shipped all over the world at that kind of scale can never have the same kind of quality control. Good Eats - Senor_Taylor - 01-15-2018 Burger looks good. Would eat. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk RE: Good Eats - Jake - 01-15-2018 Duke's Grocery is one of my favorites and that burger is faaaaantastic. The whole menu is more expensive than it should be but the food is always really good. I'd meet you there Jon. Another place I enjoy in NW is Stoney's. It's this kinda shitty divey looking place across from the Whole Foods on P St, but the food is reasonably priced and very good. They have some killer grilled cheese options. My buddy was in the predicament where the burger is so good he gets it every time in fear that nothing else will be as good. Sunday they only have the brunch menu which didn't have any of their other sandwiches which are supposed to great. I got the "Torta Milanesa 'Cubano'" which was delicious: chicken schnitzel, jarlsberg cheese, romaine lettuce, tomato, avocado, capicola ham, pickled jalapeno, garlic aioli, dijon, onion, torta roll. They also have a brisket sandwich that the bartender said was really good, I just wasn't feeling brisket the last time I went. I'm not a huge fan of all of the toppings, I think it takes the focus away from the meat, but its part of the experience. A plain burger aint going to blow anyone away. A plain burger aint going to blow anyone away. I usually am with you on the toppings. I've cut down to just onion and pickles on almost all burgers I eat. This one was different though. The different flavors all worked together. People next to us were ordering without this and that and after eating it the way the chef created it, I think it would be a disservice to change it up. Different strokes though. RE: Good Eats - .RJ - 01-15-2018 Either way, sounds like I need to make it down there. Who wants to go? G, Jake, DJ, Taylor? RE: Good Eats - Senor_Taylor - 01-15-2018 I'm down to go sometime. Was thinking about logistics earlier. I'll drag Zach and Tyler along. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk RE: Good Eats - Jake - 01-15-2018 I'd go - fair warning, it's a small place and I'm not sure if they do reservations. Can definitely call and ask. On the note of "how the chef does it" - I've been taking that approach lately and enjoying it quite a bit. Unless there's something that I find 100% gross or am allergic to/don't want for dietary reasons, I don't see the reason to deviate. Same for how meat is cooked - just do it how the chef recommends, thanks. There is a Matchbox location there. Great pizza. I told you. |
