Love it.shouldnt you have bought a prius hippy? seriously. and buying a car to make you wife happy? oh wait... why do i drive an automatic station wagon? Re: What car should I buy? For old time's sake... - Apoc - 10-25-2014 A 2005 Linear (non-turbo) model with 53k miles popped up locally a few days ago. We went and checked it out today; the thing is amazingly clean for being nine years old. The wife actually commented "I would have thought it was a brand new car, if it wasn't for the somewhat dated interior." Everything's in great shape, except a few door dings... which the dealer is going to pay for by sending a paintless repair guy to our house. I looked at it while they had it on the lift and all the joints/boots/whatnots are in surprisingly good shape. No seepage on anything. There's minor rust on the control arms, but otherwise you'd never know it was a nine year old car. It's actually a Canadian spec model - the only difference is the gauge cluster is in C/KM. I negotiated an allowance to get a cluster swap. I'm not really sure I care because MPH is still there in smaller numbers. The only thing that isn't stock is the JVC head unit and a mic. The head unit supports bluetooth audio and phone, which is an unexpected perk. It also has adjustable colors, so the buttons are matched identical to the interior lights. Yay no ricer radio! The best part is it takes regular gas. It drives like you'd expect a Subaru to drive. The transmission is way better than the Mini and 166 hp is plenty for us (never thought I'd say that). I forgot what AWD like - it's surprising how much different it feels when driving up very steep wet hills. We have a 19° hill near our house and the Mini often has wheel spin, creating minor steering issues. Absolutely none of that with AWD. Overall, pleased with the purchase. I can't say I ever expected to be a three car household, but here we are. The good news is I can finally insure the 911 with Hagerty (they require more cars than drivers) and get a stupid low rate. We have no property tax here, so the carrying costs of the 911 should be no more than $200/year. I'm looking forward to taking this thing over the Cascades when my dad and I go hunting in SE Washington in two months. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
Re: What car should I buy? For old time's sake... - CaptainHenreh - 10-26-2014 That is quite clean, and the 4EAT is an excellent, if slightly dated, transmission. Put aside a grand for headgaskets, and you've got many years of service ahead of you. Re: What car should I buy? For old time's sake... - davej - 10-26-2014 What Rex said. Nice find! And only 50k mikes?! Hagerty is a hell of a deal. I put the 02 with them, just hope they are decent if I ever need them Re: What car should I buy? For old time's sake... - ScottyB - 10-26-2014 nice score, that thing is stupid clean. i can't believe how much worse i've seen some imprezas of that generation look after only half those miles. CaptainHenreh Wrote:Put aside a grand for headgaskets, and you've got many years of service ahead of you. yes. it is a when, not if, i hate to say. mine came at 88k miles. do they salt/cinder/gravel your roads in the winter? give a look at some kind of clearbra or mudflaps if so. i don't know how your legacy fared but that pretty impreza paint is super thin. take a gander through my chaotic project thread if you want, since we're the same MY. any questions, and i'll see what i can do to help. Generally by page 3 all the initial requirements and constraints are out the window. Re: What car should I buy? Not really. It snows once a year and it's gone a day later. If anything, it's sand on major roads. You want entertainment, youtube "seattle bus snow." Re: What car should I buy? For old time's sake... - Apoc - 01-10-2016 So the Saab is a decent car, but I've realized I don't like owning a 10+ year old car for a daily driver. We'll be looking to upgrade this year; probably an All Road or a V60. In the meantime, here are some pics from a drive in the Saab last weekend. It did surprisingly well with aging all seasons. This trip definitely cemented to desire to stick with AWD. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
Re: What car should I buy? For old time's sake... - JPolen01 - 01-10-2016 Man that's some beautiful scenery. Re: What car should I buy? For old time's sake... - Senor_Taylor - 01-10-2016 I spent part of a summer out in Washington when I was really young. Super cool place. People think it's just rain and fog, and they're right, but there's also tons of cool stuff. Re: What car should I buy? For old time's sake... - WRXtranceformed - 01-11-2016 PacNW has some of the prettiest scenery on the planet. I've seen some of the new Volvos and they look sharp. The front of the new XC90 looks much improved, the rear looks pretty much the same. That was always my niggle with Volvos, they never caught up with modern interiors & tech...for like 15 years. This year they finally stepped up their game Re: What car should I buy? Not really liking it in photos, but we went test-driving a couple SUVs last week for Jess and I did a double take at the volvo lot. Too bad I would never drive a Volvo (color me brand racist). |
