But def. sat back a bit further -- been scouring CL to find a Playseat/g27 setup so I can get back into it. Re: iRacing? - BLINGMW - 09-10-2014 Ok, hopefully this doesn't bring too much laughter. I decided not to do an actual seat and go DIY made out of (scrap) wood. I wanted something low enough to stay underneath the screen so I didn't have to move it to watch a movie. And I spent maybe $25 instead of $500. I'm quite happy with it, it's comfortable enough, very solid, and reminds me of sitting in a go-kart. :dunno:  ![]() ![]() ![]() And for the time being, the coffee table makes a re-appearance to the side to hold the keyboard and mouse. In other news, I STILL haven't upgraded the wheel/pedals as I have yet to find something that sounds better enough that I want to spend $400+ on it. I'll just play this one out until it breaks. Re: iRacing? - JPolen01 - 09-11-2014 That looks SO uncomfortable. Where is the cupholder? Is this an early 90s BMW? Re: iRacing? - D_Eclipse9916 - 09-11-2014 I love it. Great job. Re: iRacing? - BLINGMW - 09-11-2014 JPolen01 Wrote:That looks SO uncomfortable.I wouldn't want to DD it, it's only 18" wide inside, but it works for a race. Turns out coffee table can also hold beer, problem solved. Re: iRacing? - HAULN-SS - 09-11-2014 why the shift so high? are you driving a Civic Si? Re: iRacing? - ScottyB - 09-11-2014 Chan that's awesome. i'm pretty jealous. honestly as uncomfortable as a lot of "task" chairs are for PC play, that doesn't look that much worse. plus, $25 leaves a lot left over so you can get drunk enough to not feel anything! Re: iRacing? - Mike - 09-11-2014 way awesome. bravo. Re: iRacing? - BLINGMW - 09-12-2014 ScottyB Wrote:...plus, $25 leaves a lot left over so you can get drunk enough to not feel anything! Funny thing about that, I can't really drink and expect to play iRacing very well :dunno: This game may be the only thing that prevents me from becoming an alcoholic! Re: iRacing? - Steve85 - 01-03-2015 Mrs. Santa hooked me up with a $50 iRacing certificate and a Logitech G27 wheel! I bought the three month subscription and added VIR. I went through the setup and hardware calibration and very happy with the experience. So far I've only done testing, trying out some of the cars and tracks. I'll settle on one of the cars to test heavily before doing any racing so I don't crash everyone else out like a d-bag.The Miata is has been the easiest to handle while learning the new tracks. CTS-V is best for cranking up the stereo after a few drinks and ballin the shit out of VIR. The current cockpit is a table made of scrap wood and an old kitchen table chair. It's...suitable. It's very adjustable so the boys can set it up and do some laps. Haven't gone deep into settings or anything but found it odd that although the wheel has 1.5 revolutions in each direction, the calibration set it to only use 90* in either direction. And it seems to change the ratio based on speed of the car. Need to look into this. So, fun and challenging, exactly what I was hoping! Re: iRacing? - G.Irish - 01-05-2015 I must admit that blasting around VIR in that CTS-V was very satisfying. I finally played iRacing for a few hours at Chan's and now I'm seriously thinking about adding it to the ManLoft setup. You would probably like and should buy the Mustang once you get the hang of the game and are good enough to get out of rookie Miata. The series is healthy, car sounds good (ok, not as good as the CTS-V), and is approx Miata-easy to drive (allows for a beer or two) but significantly faster. Steve85 Wrote:The current cockpit is a table made of scrap wood and an old kitchen table chair. It's...suitable. It's very adjustable so the boys can set it up and do some laps.Gotta start somewhere! And with a wheel that popular I'm sure the answer is quite available. Nothing about the game works right-out-of-the-box and there's a lot to do manually beyond the auto "calibration". As far as ratio changing, check "linear steering mode" box. Not sure why they don't make it default to that. Even with it however, below 10? 15? (I forget) MPH, the steering ratio gets faster. Tell me when you're likely to play and lets go run some laps *edit* I was wrong, the "linear mode" I was thinking of is for the FFB. You should still turn it on. But the steering itself should be linear, until you're going slow. This is one of 100 poorly documented things you'll have to figure out. If it's clearly being non-linear at higher speeds, maybe something in the G27 settings is doing this. Re: iRacing? - Steve85 - 01-06-2015 Yeah, not pretty but works and is easy to move out of the way! I kind of wish there was something between the Miata and CTS to begin with, like even an E46 would be great. But like real life, it's not like I've mastered the slow car and need to move on... How are the rookie races? I mean, do people get all bent out of shape when someone makes a rookie mistake? It's linear at higher speeds, but the ratio seems to increase at like 40-50MPH. I'll definitely play with the settings or just get used to it. It messes me up at Summit T1, Oak Tree and other hairpin like turns where I spent the entire rest of the lap at a different ratio. Thanks for the tips, I'll play with the settings and do a little research. I will let you know, next couple weeks not looking good for much play time though. Re: iRacing? - BLINGMW - 01-07-2015 The CTS was a car that was added, best as I can tell, as a Cadillac advertisement. It has no place being a rookie car, but hey, free car. The closest thing to an E46 is the Mustang (I know that sounds kinda silly). :dunno: Try the solstice too. And Spec Racer Ford is fun but not easy to drive and has a ton of suspension set-up options that make or break the car. The rookie races can be a crash-fest and while most people are trying and are reasonable, few have read or understand the rules. IF you want to take it seriously at all, read the rules, practice, qualify, focus on staying on track and stay away from other cars. Finish a few rookie races with an ok safety rating and you get your D license when that season ends. Then you have a lot more options. Not sure what to tell you about the ratio changing at that high of a speed, but if you haven't got the wheel to calibrate to the whole range, that's probably related. Re: iRacing? - BLINGMW - 05-04-2015 I haven't been playing this much in a while, maybe I need a break with something less serious. If anyone would like to try my iRacing login for a few days to check it out, send me a PM. Re: iRacing? - Jake - 05-06-2015 Once I get moved fully (this weekend) I would like to pick up a wheel/pedals and give iRacing a shot. Really think it could go a long way in improving my approach to various turns, and would be helpful to learn new tracks before I go (i.e. Road Atlanta in December). Re: iRacing? - BLINGMW - 06-15-2016 So does anyone have an account now that would be willing to let me log in as them (AGAINST THE RULES!) and try out the nurburgring for an evening? Now that I have a working wheel again I sure would like to....
