I have the same plan as you, and mine is 960/6 months for the malibu, monte carlo, and bike. Was yours for all the vehicles in your signature? Don't you have a long ass commute? I have found that makes a huge difference as well. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Sijray21 - 05-07-2010 Feersty Wrote:HAULN-SS Wrote:Man. I must be getting ripped off or something. Was yours for all the vehicles in your signature? do you mean reporting more mileage per year on your policy? ...well...that's up to you to adjust, now isn't it  Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - HAULN-SS - 05-07-2010 heh, yeah, and actually the insurance agent knows I "adjust" it..was his idea Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Mike - 05-07-2010 that is insurance fraud. i wouldn't mess with that. So is being on a policy with a different residence than your car is garaged in, unless specified. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Sijray21 - 05-07-2010 Mike Wrote:that is insurance fraud. i wouldn't mess with that. unless you claim a drastic reduction in mileage; it's a subjective estimate, not fraud... Apoc Wrote:So is being on a policy with a different residence than your car is garaged in, unless specified. however this...this is fraud i personally think insurance companies should make you report the actual number of miles you drive and base your rate (or any increases) on an accident/incident per miles driven basis and your annual mileage driven...that ratio would be the true test to how safe of a driver you are .

Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - HAULN-SS - 05-07-2010 It's not fraud. I simply reduced the amount based on days off, different work locations, having multiple vehicles I drive sometimes, blah blah blah. Significantly takes down the amount you might put on the primary car for a work commute. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Dave - 05-08-2010 Feersty Wrote:What does this have to do with fuel purchases? Jay's suggestion only requires that every 6 months the person looks at their odometer and reports it when they renew their policy.Sijray21 Wrote:i personally think insurance companies should make you report the actual number of miles you drive and base your rate (or any increases) on an accident/incident per miles driven basis and your annual mileage driven...that ratio would be the true test to how safe of a driver you are Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Apoc - 05-08-2010 I'm a nerd and I've been keeping this up for the last 10 years. Figured I'd post.
Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - ScottyB - 05-08-2010 so what happened that pushed the M3 so high that last year? accident? none of your other cars do that. was the prelude a huge® theft risk at that time or is that just a function of your age/record? can't get over how high that is. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Apoc - 05-08-2010 ![]() $7500 repair: http://derecola.com/archives/Durango That was the second accident/claim in a calendar year; the other one wasn't nearly as costly though. You can see the carryover from it the first few years I had the S4. That car was more expensive, so it was higher, but most of it was the accident. I was 22 and had quite a few speeding tickets on my record when I had the Prelude. No normal car insurance company would cover me, so I was with one of those "high risk" companies. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Sijray21 - 05-09-2010 wow - that kind of record keeping is awesome! i need to do more of that Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Dave - 09-21-2010 So my current policy is ending and I've been doing a little shopping. A little less than a year ago I compared Progressive and Geico when combining policies between me and my wife. Progressive ended up being cheaper so we went that route. Fast forward to today and I'm making more calls to see what is out there and the two companies are matched up (along with others) again. Except this time Geico is $450 cheaper for the exact same coverage. Wow. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - JustinG - 09-21-2010 Ive heard horror stories about Geico from Caseys dad and his body shop stories. Casey and i have Alfa Insurance, no complaints yet. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - WRXtranceformed - 09-22-2010 Always smart to shop around, especially nowadays. I ended up switching to Nationwide and my insurance is finally down to around $100 per month. Quite a change from the $250+ it's been for most of my life. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Apoc - 02-19-2011 Been with my current agent for as long as I can remember. For the hell of it, I checked out a few online quotes from the Duc. I need to verify the coverage amounts, but it looks like Progressive or Geico would save me $300/year. (one third). :? (found this thread by searching "sodomy") Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Ryan T - 02-19-2011 I've heard lots of horror stories about Geico and their online quotes. They will quote you really low then after you pay your first months premium they "evaluate your driving record" and jack your premium up. Progressive always treated me pretty well when I was with them though. Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Apoc - 02-19-2011 You can pay a year in advance with both, so that probably (might?) prevent rate hikes. Given the option though, I'd likely choose Progressive. I've had the same agent/company for 15+ years. Guess I should shop around my cars as well... Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Ryan T - 02-20-2011 If you've stuck with them that long and been happy might be worth mentioning to him/her that you did some rooting around and found some better deals. Maybe they can match the other deals/offer you some incentive to stay? |
