- Jewels - 08-24-2006 Jess Wrote:Yeah, this is true, but unless things have changed in the 5 years since Chan, Gerald, and the rest of the OGs have been in college, they faced the same challenges of jobs/money/school as well and still managed to participate. I think we just need to push the cheaper alternatives and make it as easy as possible for them to join in! Well I agree. So if you have any ideas, and need any help I am more than ready to give you a hand. - Maengelito - 08-24-2006 Evan Wrote:Jewels Wrote:there isn't much of current student participation anyway.yup i like how in campus events, there are events that arent on campus unless i misread it and they're wakeboarding on newman lake. - BLINGMW - 08-24-2006 Maengelito Wrote:i like how in campus events, there are events that arent on campus unless i misread it and they're wakeboarding on newman lake. basically they hate us. - Kaan - 08-24-2006 lost of people hate me. i can give some advise on how to get over it. curse alot, make them uncomfortable, make fun of them repetatively, and punch them now and then. works for me! - bimmerboodle - 08-24-2006 what could be cheaper than getting paid to flag?????? - Jess - 08-24-2006 bimmerboodle Wrote:what could be cheaper than getting paid to flag??????fo' shizzy eeewww.. newman lake... didn't it test positive for cholera or syphilis or something like that? well jewels, Chan and I are going to try to make it to the meetings this semester, or at least work with the officers to foster involvement. I think the statement made on another thread a week or so ago about "30 year olds still in a college club" shows that they just don't "get it". - Jewels - 08-24-2006 Jess, I'm glad someone is gonna be going to the meetings that are representatives for the OG's and alumni. Maybe that alone will help to get more students out at events. - Goodspeed - 08-24-2006 Yeah, this is move in weekend for me and others so I won't be able to make it out at least to spectate....argh...there seems to be so many events right now before MM starts up again at school! Sucks. But when everyone is settled and meetings start theres no excuse not to get out there. Personally I'm going to be MM bean counter/video guy for now and junior/senior year I hope to buy a track car and get out there. We have a lot of ideas about getting people out there this year so hopefully you'll see some improvement. One thing though, I noticed earlier there was talk of current student forums....I was thinking maybe we could have an Alumni forum JUST to have profiles on all of you...like a picture of you, who you are, what you drive etc etc and some history of your involvement in MM. Everyone could have a profile post for all to see, that way new members have an idea of who you are, I think that would help a lot 8). Sorry to further jack this thread, just had some ideas - Evan - 08-24-2006 Jess Wrote:eeewww.. newman lake... didn't it test positive for cholera or syphilis or something like that?lol! Here I thought I was contributing my experience and knowledge to the club, but I guess Im just a wierd old guy (who is nowhere near 30, btw) i was really disappointed by that comment as well. i think of it more as a motorsport club with college roots, then a college club. thats what makes MM unique and thats what makes us better than the other JMU clubs. and i really really really really really hope that current students take as much pride and are as involved when they get out of school. - bimmerboodle - 08-24-2006 .RJ Wrote:Actually I am the weird old guy near 40 who didn't go to JMU, who posts here.Evan Wrote:(who is nowhere near 30, btw) - PDenbigh - 08-24-2006 That's ok Sean. Damn where was that 30 yr olds comment made at, I missed that one.Evan Wrote:(who is nowhere near 30, btw) - Maengelito - 08-28-2006 my weekend (now that i've had some rest) i was really anxious to get out on track saturday morning because i havent driven summit main in close to a year and never with the miata. my first session was a bit hairy though as i relearned the little nuances of the track. also, my front brakes which i thought had enough meat on them for the weekend crapped out on my during my first session. i had a sinking feeling in my stomach going into T1 and T5 with such unpredictable brakes. after the session, i was considering putting my street brakes on my grooved rotors. i asked alex ratcliffe (king rat motorsports) for some miata rotors. (of all my years doin this, i think alex has helped me with an integra rotor, an integra axle and 2 miata rotors all at track weekends. what a great fuckin guy) evan also had some carbotech panther pluses that were used and he was lookin to get rid of. an instructor paddocked next to me and channing helped out by providing the jack and encouragement. i ended up changing one pad and rotor, helped instruct, came back and changed the other side just in time to get out on my next session. i bedded the pads in that session and took it fairly easy as i didnt know how my brakes would feel. the rest of the weekend, i was still a little hesitant about the brakes but the pads held up great and i could brake with a little bit of confidence. thanks to evan and alex for helpin out. my students were not in over their heads and i could see definite improvement from start to finish. i only had a few offs but the car held up great. too bad a stock miata is no match for any car (especially corvettes) on R-tires.other highlights from the weekend: channing waking up RJ, chad and christina and snuggling up with RJ throwing empty beercans at the clothes rack and then in the back of snobeck's truck evan's hate on everyone and everything some old dude yelling at seddon to move his truck some love confession for chapin written on the dust on his back window and no bent metal for any MMer's great fuckin weekend guys... cant wait for the next one |
