Re: Great article on the terribleness of DC area driving - WRXtranceformed - 02-28-2014 SlimKlim Wrote:Yessir.Beautiful farm man. I visited our farm last weekend, my dad is still living on it. Our family has owned it since the '60s but now 100 acres outside of Leesburg is $$$$. It is one of the most beautiful, peaceful places I have ever been. It was awesome to grow up there, although I was definitely one of those teenagers with angst due to there being nothing to do around that area at the time. I'll have to see if I can dig up a picture. There aren't too many places around that area that you can look up and see all of the stars at night. Re: Great article on the terribleness of DC area driving - Mike - 02-28-2014 Stopped for a beer at the bike shop on the way home. Getting some work done on the pad while I'm here.

The list was really good. Mostly. 1. We invented dogecoin. Stupid. 2. We rock the "top 10 cities" lists for all sorts of categories 3. You can get a growler of beer on almost any block 4. We've got some goofy and funny ci council dude with a hook 5. Our fans display secessionist flags at soccer games 6. We have more movie theaters wi beer than without 7. Belly dancing 8. Capital of the live music world 9. Middle class people ride the bus 10. Prices at the airport are mandated to not be marked up 11. No cyclist was killed by a car last year 12. We get less rain than most of the east coast 13. We have food cart blocks 14. Everclear. The band. Seriously? 15. We care about some weird and insignificant causes like horses, pools, and weed. Okay, maybe that last one isn't so insignificant. 16. There isn't a single restaurant with a dress code. 17. Some dumb thing about free speech 18. We have funny basketball writers 19. Even our forefathers were hipsters. Except that was actually how people dress in 1890. Iono. 20. We're about to finish the only bridge in the country that carries trains, buses, bikes, and pedestrians, but no cars 21. We have fat vegans. I lol'd. 22. We are the arbiters of good coffee. Shit is unreal here. 23. The drummer for The Roots says we are his favorite city 24. Square readers are everywhere 25. We've got some dumb bridge that reattached a forgotten and forgettable part of the city recently. 26. Our center loves comic books, Harry Potter, makes references to Boy Meet World and Goonies, and listens to Bruce Springsteen pregame. I give shits about somewhere between zero and one of those 26 points, and some of them are either bad, stupid, or wrong. Re: Great article on the terribleness of DC area driving - Mike - 03-01-2014 Derek, FAREless square no longer exists. And Evan, I think the list was being a bit satirical. Re: Great article on the terribleness of DC area driving - Apoc - 03-01-2014 Seattle got rid of its free ride zone to combat homeless riding the bus too. Twinsies! Re: Great article on the terribleness of DC area driving - kcook - 03-01-2014  Re: Great article on the terribleness of DC area driving - WRXtranceformed - 03-01-2014 A friend of ours from college was pretty successful after graduation working as an accountant for a few years in DC. One Friday night he came home hammered from the bars up there, decided he was fed up with the area, his job, the people there. He called his boss in the morning and quit his job, sold or gave away most of his possessions, packed up a backpack with what was left and bought a one way ticket to Hawaii. No job, no place to live, just left on Monday. He got a few part time jobs serving drinks to cruise passengers and doing dolphin tours and he's basically homeless. He sleeps in a hammock like in banana fields and surfs all day when he's not working. From his Facebook pictures part of me is extremely jealous and part of me thinks he is a complete lunatic. Re: Great article on the terribleness of DC area driving - ScottyB - 03-01-2014 sounds great until the first time he gets sick. had a buddy do somewhat the same...went from ski bum in montana, serving tables to pay rent and for lift tickets, to hawaii where he's got his bartending liscense and works in the tourism industry. part of admires such a simple life.
