after having no luck with "other brand" (whatever has great specs, decent reviews, and is dirty cheap) routers for years (once I finally gave up on my old linksys wrt), i ponied up and got the airport extremaganza plus. it hasn't so much as hiccuped in the two years i've owned it.

apples routers test very poorly compared to other high end routers in its price range. Get a high end netgear like an R7000 and it blows away the airport in every category and has additional features like built in VPN which is pretty awesome.

I have both an R7000 and an AC68 and both are amazing machines.

I looked at the R7000 too but it got mixed reviews. If this one eats it again I'll end up with the Apple or high end net gear

does the originating device's screen have to stay on the program, or even be on to display out? or can you start/send a movie to the chromecast and do something else with the tablet/phone or let the screen sleep?

Most annoying to me is that you can't just play from your phone "camera roll" to TV. Have to upload to YT first. Might be something you can do with a YT app to play directly from phone to TV w/out actually uploading but that wasn't going to help me Saturday night so I stopped reading...

Oh yeah - it's also reallyyyy annoying that the standard music player wont play to the TV..you have to be in google play, and it won't let you do songs you didnt buy on google play..fuck them. Separately, I have no idea why no one has made a screencast app that just picks up everything you do on the tablet and pushes it to TV.

got a surface pro 3 via work. nice bit of hardware. the software is still lacking (both 1st and 3rd parties). would recommend. great power in such a small device.

I lust after them all the time. I tried to justify buying one as a tablet, but it was just too big and expensive. If I was a coffee shop worker or didn't already have a behemoth laptop for home use, I probably would have grabbed one.
